Sounds like a great way to make big bucks off of hats that are otherwise terminally damaged. Ignore the damage, westernize it with stuff that only Hollywood would ever actually wear. Those pictures of native Americans wearing eastern-style hats; none appear to be done gaudy. Instead, you more often see their hats as off-scale conservative, open-crown, plain.

Exactly what I thought.

Make that three of us. My fear is that there are still enough people in this world to buy the seller's story, and his merchandise, that he and his ilk will continue in this sort of hustle.

It costs so little to put such an offer on the 'net, and the buyer has so little practical recourse (I mean really, whaddya gonna do about it from thousands of miles and several states away?), that the BS artists will flock there.

Actually, if one pokes around his site, one sees that this seller has a bunch of hats with less than impressive and seemingly less than well-documented provenance . . . and insane prices . . .

Governor McNutt's Stetson ($1,700):

Stetson Bowler, made for ELC (even the seller doesn't know who he was) ($2,210):

Odd what folks will pay for a "story." I have seen old Winchesters dug up, or found out in the desert, that are nothing but rust and rot, sell for 4X what a nice functional example will bring. "If only it could talk." :eyebrows:

Maybe we need Hat Stars on cable. Similar to Pawn Stars. However, folks bring in hats for estimated value and authentication. Host suggestions?
