    What are you wearing today??

Thanksgiving Day - Silver Spring, Maryland - November 26, 2015 Portrait under vintage Dobbs fedora with young woman and dog at feet.

    Akubra Campdraft

My personal experience is a little different from BR's. I only have an Imperial Grade Federation IV from HatsDirect, but, along with an "American version" Akubra Adventurer, it is the softest and least stiff of all of my Akubra felt hats, which also include two Bushmen, a Campdraft, a...

The idea that hats keep you cooler...

Wearing a hat on a hot sunny day will make you feel cooler if: 1.The hat is light in weight and color (the lighter the better, white ideally), so that it reflects most of the light and heat. 2.The hat lets air through easily (and is preferably vented). 3.The hat has a high crown with the top of...

    Akubra Campdraft

58cm Stetsons fit me just about perfectly. 58cm Borsalinos tend to be little tight on me. 58cm Akubras are usually a little loose but soon shrink down a little to a perfect fit for me. Regarding the difference in weight between the regular "Imperial Quality" and the more expensive "Heritage...

    The Natural...Questions

Here's a thread with a considerably more detailed discussion of the hats worn by Robert Redford in the film "The Natural". Yes, hats. There are two distinctly different ones. http://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/new-to-the-hat-world-need-help.82554/

    Bogart Borsalino?

"All Through the Night" is worth watching. Runyonesque characters, led by Bogie, battle German nazi "fifth-columnists" in New York city, in often comical fashion. Fabulous cast (actually fairly standard for Warner Brothers in those days) with William Demarest as Bogie's main man, Wallace Ford as...

    Bogart Borsalino?

Yes, you're correct. However, I've watched the film, and that most certainly is the hat that Bogart wears before and after this particular screenshot. Incidentally, "the dude on right" holding the hat is Edward Brophy, a memorable "Hollywood golden era" character actor who mostly played comical...

    Bogart Borsalino?

Thanks, but Borsalino had two-tone circular imprints in their liners as well, so as I can't make out the printing in the hat, it doesn't quite strike me as a definitive answer. None the less, I wouldn't be disappointed to find out that Bogart was wearing American rather than fascist at the time...

    Bogart Borsalino?

Is that a Borsalino liner inside of the hat that Humphrey Bogart is holding in the 1941 film, "All Through the Night"?

On NPR.org: A Portrait Of The World's Finest Panama Hat

The article says 4,000 wpsi. http://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2015/08/08/340682706/hes-just-woven-the-worlds-finest-panama-hat-but-who-will-buy-it

outback hats, western hats w removable hatbands?

Most any hat with a pugaree hatband will allow the hatband to be easily changed for another pugaree because they typically are simply held onto the hat with little hooks which remove and attach very easily. You can also just put a pugaree over a hat's original hatband, particularly if the...

Akubra hat with a bit bigger brim and crown than their Campdraft?

It doesn't say so on the Everything Australian website, but they'll throw in a free thin chinstrap that can be threaded through the vent holes of vented Akubra hats if you request it. I got them for my Cattleman and Coober Pedy that I bought from them (with no waiting period), although they...

Akubra hat with a bit bigger brim and crown than their Campdraft?

I also like the Akubra Coober Pedy among Akubra hats with circa 3" wide brims. It has a 3-1/4" downturn brim with a pre-creased crown that is tall enough so as not to touch the top of my head, something that is not true of most other Akubra hats. An important thing to note about the Coober Pedy...

Akubra hat with a bit bigger brim and crown than their Campdraft?

Bluewater Group is the same as Kakadu Trader. Call them and ask them whether they have the style and size that you want in stock or, if not, then when they expect to get it. From my experience, they'll be truthful about it. The same is true of The Cultured Cowboy. The Akubra Adventurer sold by...

Akubra hat with a bit bigger brim and crown than their Campdraft?

The Bushman has a wider brim, 3-1/4" versus 2-7/8", than the Campdraft, but a lower crown, 5-1/2" versus 5-3/4". Kakadu Trader http://www.kakadutrader.com/akubra_hatindex.html and The Cultured Cowboy http://culturedcowboy.com/hats/DavidMorgan/pages/akubrahats.htm both sell Akubras at lower...

    Akubra Campdraft

My Bushmen came with 5.5" tall open crowns. My Campdraft came with an open crown height of about 5.75" or possibly even taller.

Anyone know anything about this hatmaker Daquino?

Nice. That's over 7 weeks of vacation in about 3 months.

Want to Buy: nice summer weight felt wide brim fedora

Stratton hats are most definitely not lightweight. They are extremely thick and very hard and stiff. No one really makes anything resembling lightweight fur felt hats nowadays except custom hatters and Borsalino.

What hat are you waiting for today?

Neither bowler nor homburg as it hasn't a curled brim edge. It's fairly obviously a fedora because of the snap brim and soft crown.

    I need some HAT help!!!!

Not necessarily. I've contacted a couple of well-regarded ones who assured me that they could not get either "dress weight" or "light weight" fur felt hat bodies with open crown heights taller than 5.5".
