Was watching a TCM movie the other night "The Bride Came C.O.D." a comedy from 1941 with James Cagney and Bette Davis. A character "Pop Tolliver" played by Harry Davenport wore this hat;
Could this be the inspiration?
Want to pay some compliments on today's hats now that my workday is done.
Fruno-the Adam is a delight and at the perfect angle. As Bing said "It ain't a hat if it ain't got that tilt".
Hatophile-You've been treating us to some rare names in vintage hats. Always love the sweep of your brims...
I can't post anything directly anymore. no idea why. I have to make some kind of change in photobucket or it won't post. Wish I could help. I simply found a workaround.
Great day for hats! Everybody looks so good!
Wore my Bushman on a Big Gulp run (I know soda's not good for me but I had...
I'm a +1 with Rick. Well done!
I dig your "modified cattleman", G.Durand (thanks for the link to this, great thread). I sort of did it with my Bushman and I think I may try it on some more thin ribbons following your fine examples. For some reason I've never liked the narrow factory cattleman...
Hato, I forgot to mention how much I like those wide pinches (or is it a cattleman crease) on Your Open Road. It inspired me to reshape my Bushman like it.
I think I'll wear it tomorrow.
S4C, those Caxton's look pretty sweet and the price even sweeter! I'd live with the thin ribbons a while before changing. Thin ribbon Open Road/Stratoliner style hats are great for casual wear.
I find the Akubras a little thick and/or stiff to get good depth and definition on side dents. It can certainly be done, just takes a little work. Maybe a little time to soften up.
Java, looks great whatever it is. I see what you mean about stingy. Kind of come to expect that 2 7/8 brim on a silverbelly hat like that. Think of it as a De Luxe Stratoliner with a wind cord.
Looking great in that new Excellent Strat, Charlie! You've inspired me to wear my inferior Premiere Mink today (pics later). You make that grey color look very tempting.
Ralph Lauren hunting jacket from the 90's. Like the heavy Woolrich winter hunting coats, I've got a lot of these canvas hunting jackets new and vintage as well. I haven't gone hunting in 20 years but i still like the jackets for their utility.
Thanks for the kind words Everyone
Pulling out all the stops today! Great nature shots, Gentlemen!
Not so great here. Overcast on a trip for groceries at Whole "Paycheck"
S4C inspired me to wear my Stetson Twenty today as well

Some of these rules of size and shape seem somewhat subjective to me. I don't like tapered crowns so I think they look bad on everyone regardless of their size and shape. I think full crowns and big brims look good on everyone. You're a pretty big guy so I say, if you like, get a...
