Well, not today, exactly. A couple of weeks ago in Arizona...
...while on a vacation trip. I brought along my newest Akubra -- a Rough Rider in Light Sand. I trimmed the brim a wee bit (to 3.5"), re-shaped it to my liking and changed the cattleman crease to a nice pinchfront teardrop. I also...
Checked out some Sunbody hats while in Arizona on vacation last week. Tempted, but I'm hoping some of the Sunbody guys can answer some questions before I decide to buy.
The open-crown hats seemed very...round, rather than oval. Does anyone know how a Sunbody takes to being coaxed into a...
So many great and supportive comments following your post! Glad to see you're feeling better about wearing hats as the replies rolled in. And, yes, many of us wear them as sun protection, too. (I do.)
Like many in the Lounge gang, I also initially felt self-conscious wearing a "real" hat...
Interesting story. Releasing a virus may not have been the smartest thing to do. Messing with Mother Nature often leads to unintended consequences.
I love my Akubras! (I have 9 of them, all bought in the past 3 years after learning about the brand here on the Lounge.)
After reading this story...
I've changed the brim shape on all 10 of my hats (9 Akubras of varying thicknesses, 1 Stetson western). I picked up these tips right here at the Lounge.
I set my steam iron to hot/cotton setting, set the hat on an ironing board, place a heavy t-shirt over the portion of the brim to be...
Paladin111, I hope you like yours. As someone suggested above, I did change the ribbon on mine (to a darker color)and blocked it into a nice "Raiders"-style Indy fedora. It's fun to wear! But you should shape our open-crown into whatever suits you.
I like it, Crazy Dave! And good for you for tackling the shape-change on your own.
If there's anything I learned from the gang here, it's that decent-quality fur-felt hats are pretty durable, and it's hard to wreck one beyond redemption if you're reasonably careful in your re-blocking...
I'm with the others. Best bet is to order your normal size. I wear a 58 and ordered a 58 DM Adventurer, which fit very well. Though I've found there's some variation among Akubra hats of the same labeled size, I made the mistake of ordering a 59 once and had to go through all kinds of efforts to...
Apologies if this has already been posted. TNT television has a new limited 6-hr series "Mob City" starting tonight (Weds Dec 4) from 9-11 PM. It's set in LA in 1947 and based on a non-fiction book about the cops vs. mobsters Mickey Cohen and Bugsy Siegel.
This line from the NY Times'...
Brian, Akubra seems to have discontinued the Silver Spur. So it may no longer be available. Sam should be able to tell you that. I'd be surprised if he doesn't get right back to you with an update.
GREAT job re-doing that sombrero, Davidd!! That will sure keep the sun off your face.
I've also straightened many an Akubra brim to re-shape to my own preference. Akubras are very cooperative hats that way. To keep from over-ironing or getting an iron-imprint on the brim, I use a thick...
Wow! That must have been fun. Is the movie a period piece? Can you tell us more about the process you went through -- what guidance you got from the costume designer or anyone else with the production? Or was it all up to you?
Nothing but top-notch service from Everything Australian for me
I've ordered at least a half-dozen Akubras from EA. Proprietor Sam Menche almost always replies to e-mails within a day.
He also goes above and beyond -- before ordering an Akubra Rough Rider western, I asked if he could tell...
Love for black western hats here...
I guess with western hats, it's easier to give a black hat some extra punch, since you have a little more leeway with decorative hatbands. This is one of my favorite hats (one of my 3 black Akubras, with a 4th on the way from Everything Australian)...
