    Classic Safari vehicles!

Where I live you have to have all-wheel drive because of the ice. I traded in a pickup for an AWD. Still, I miss having a truck . . . :(

Skirt the fringes? Hah! Totally immoral if not illegal.

I have long dreamed of fishing for peacock bass. And one like that would work!

100% pure buckwheat pancakes. Man, those were good. For years I couldn't make them but last year both sisters were at the house and we all had a craving so combining brainpower we made up a batch. Just a good after all these years.

I didn't mind the M151 but had little good to say about the HumVee. I suppose that if you were driving it over open, rough terrain it does its job but the blamed thing is so wide that it is very difficult to negotiate streets in. Every time I tried to turn right, I ran over the curb.

Oh I do hope the British Army doesn't decide to go with HumVees! Ghastly things.

A graduate student back when I was living in married students' housing had one of those command cars. He was quite the collector and had a knack for bargains. Among other things in it was a four passenger open AC Bristol of which, he said, there were only seven made. His real score, though...

If I was going to cross Africa in a Dodge, I'd want one of these or possibly its antecedents.

I've never had much luck with flint and steel but I have very successfully started fires with a bow drill and friction. But, yes, matches are right up there with the printing press as an essential to civilized life.

Calamari fritti. Grandmama made it like nobody else.

Indeed. I've seen a driver of a brand new 4x4 drive out onto a wet, plowed field on the presumption that with four-wheel drive he could go anywhere and sink his silly self right down to the frame. All-wheel won't get anyone out of that!

Bell was so extraordinary a shot that he could take geese out of the air with a rifle. And that story of his using a 7mm Mauser on elephants is urban myth. He didn't even buy the 7mm until he retired to Scotland. However, he did use FMJ .303's on elephant quite successfully. But understand...

A .38 ACP? On game? Only if you can hit them in the eye. Anyone who tried it on a big bear or a moose would likely end up as lunch.

I've seen more sidecars here in the Portland area than I ever saw anywhere else. There's a Russian motorcycle dealer in town who seems to be the main guy for them. Personally, I'd rather have a Morgan 3.

The Brat's seats faced the wrong way. In southern Africa, where the Toyota Land Cruiser (pickup, not SUV) has essentially replaced Rover the seats are high enough to see over the cab and face front. I like that a lot. Add a winch under the hunters' seat so you can pull a carcass into the bed...

Only owning .4 acre I can't justify a tractor but by golly, if I ever got the chance to own upwards of an acre and a half . . .
