This is a BRILL BROS., INC. DSA 100-71-C-0141, vintage USN G-1 leather flight jacket, dated to 1971
Size 42
The jacket is a flawless, original USN flight jacket from the Vietnam war era.
The real Top Gun flight jacket.
Perfect, clean, odourless and in pristine condition.
Leather, fur collar knits (new) & lining are immaculate.
There is nothing that needs doing to this jacket, but to wear and treasure it.
Leather
The chocolate brown goatskin leather is gorgeous and in perfect condition, with lots of grain and character.
There are no ghost stitch holes from removed patches and name plates. No cuts, scratches, grazes...
Just amazing character.
Collar
The vintage dark brown fur collar is in 100% perfect condition, with no bald spots. It’s original to the jacket.
I can't be sure, but I think its the ubiquitos faux mouton (80% Dynel, 20% cotton), found on G-1s post 70/ 71.
However, it's very unlike other dark brown dynel collars I've seen. Its more soft, a lot more like lamb fur.
Label
Original label is present and in perfect condition.
Zipper
Original 60s Scovill zipper is perfect and works flawlessly. Zipper was waxed.
The original leather pull is still there.
Zipper box, insertion pin and tape are in perfect condition.
Stitching is perfect.
No patches or name tags were ever stitched to this jacket. There are no “ghost” stitch holes or over-stitching.
Cuffs and waistband
The original knit parts had some small moth holes, so I had them professionally replaced with the best knits money can buy.
100% seal brown wool knit as per the original. Work done by a USN jacket collector & enthusiast who worked on the Band of Brothers TV series, in the wardrobe dept.
Lining
The original brown lining is clean and in perfect condition.
No odours or stains.
Hardware
Buttons and snaps are like new and all original.
Inside pockets are spotlessly clean.
The entire jacket was professionally inspected, carefully cleaned (didn’t need it) and the leather conditioned.
All elements were checked and detailed; buttons, snaps, stitching, elastic straps, zipper, lining, fur collar... Everything.
Size 42, but please check measurements below and the PHOTOS taken.
Model in the photos (me) is 5’10, 73 kgs with a 40” chest.
Jacket is extremely comfortable all round and I have room to layer with a light sweater.
Approx measurements:
Chest - 22 inches (up to 23" pulled)
Sleeves - 25 to 25.25 inches
Shoulders - 19 inches
Back length - 24.5 inches
This is the original early 1971 Vietnam War era Top Gun jacket.
The asking price is reasonable and Im only getting back what its cost me.
Besides importing the jacket from the US (postage & duties), procuring & replacing knits, plus other professional services to inspect, clean & detail the jacket, was upwards of £200
