The Rogue Valley in southern Oregon; Medford, Ashland, or Jackson. My closest friend lives there with his family, and I love it out there. Flying in to Medford feels a lot more like I'm arriving home than landing at the airport in Columbus. :eusa_doh:
Austin, Texas was at the top of my list of...
Ace Hard Rubber Combs
I just found out that Ace Hard Rubber combs are no longer made! :eeek:
Apparently the company stopped making them a few years back and went with putting Ace on cheap plastic made-in-China combs just like all the other plastic combs out there. I hadn't noticed because I...
I will sometimes wear my USAF Retired lapel pin when wearing a suit or sport coat as it is small and discrete. Never thought about wearing my medals. I get a little embarrassed when people thank me for serving my country when I mention having been in the Air Force. Sometimes it feels like they...
WOW is right! What I found fascinating about it was the "dance" their hands were doing while they were talking. You don't catch it at first, but then you do... very well played and not the usual groping that would be displayed in a movie today. Had to bring my wife in to see it as well...
Meet Me in St. Louis
I just finished watching Meet Me in St. Louis(1944, Judy Garland) with my six-year-old granddaughter. It was her recommendation.
Last Monday morning as I was driving her to school I had on '40s on 4 Sirius radio when The Trolley Song came on. She starting singing along...
Voted again! But I was wondering if this Compton Bassett chap is a decendent of the Bassetts that P.G. Wodehouse wrote of in his documentaries of a certain young Wooster?
Good luck again!
Tom
Bigger heads=Bigger hats=more felt used=higher cost.
Or perhaps not. :p It's really a perfect example of good ol' supply and demand in action, isn't it?
Cheers,
Tom
I thought about bidding on that Spectator as well, thinking that my grandson might wear it in a few years. Then I considered that perhaps whomever had put in the first bid might actually be able to wear it, and opted not to go for it.
Cheers,
Tom
I have absolutely no idea. I do know that I've bought more hats in a week or less than you have in a year, job! :D
Can you say "Obsession?" :eeek:
Cheers,
Tom
Thanks! And I get to live by them... I was runner-up for that green Borso! After checking out the winner's bid history I think that my bidding higher wouldn't have made anyone but the seller happier, anyway. ;)
Don't kick yourself too hard, Scooter. One thing we all learn around here is that all that $2.50 means is that the guy won by one bidding increment. It doesn't mean that's what his maximum bid was. He could have bid $300 for all you know.
The lesson here is to bid the max amount you'd be...
I was running a search on the site using Google when I stumbled across the media kit for Classic Style magazine. The kit mentions having a focus group of over 3,000 members (the Lounge) that serves as "a continuous source of subscribers and demographic information."
When I considered that the...
^^My guess is because most members tend to stick to the areas of the Lounge that are part of their specific interest. If this was posted in, say, the Hats forum it would probably generate a lot more traffic to that site.
Cheers,
Tom
PS It wasn't that long ago that we went over 4,000 members...
I thought I'd share this list of old professions making a comeback. It's another one of those slide-show type of things that various news websites like to post. Amazingly, hatter is not one of them! :eusa_doh:
Cheers,
Tom
I had this happen to me when I was walking down the street in Whittier the last time I was out there visiting my brother. I was actually casually dressed in current clothing, but I was wearing a fedora.
Turned out there were a small number of students from a local school who were out with...
