I am a fan of the Hudson.I find it to be a very versatile jacket and you wouldn't necessarily have to have an alpaca lining. My choice of hide would be the heavy crom-excel horsehide especially if it is to be your one and only. The Northeaster is similar but without a mouton collar as standard.
Cordovan appears to vary quite a lot in shade and tone, probably more than other hide colors...I prefer the darker color. Was wondering how customers specify what they want in this respect as hide samples don't really reflect the hide that your jacket will be made of.I am planning to order 50's...
You could send for a sample of their 'Mustang' hide which might fit the bill.I don't know if it is horse or steer though.Actually I have just read the description...horsehide.Probably why it's called Mustang.....I must try harder!
I will go out on a limb and suggest a nominal size 42 as I believe a Highwayman is a looser fit than is desirable in a motorcycle jacket. Also the pattern on an Elvis would taper down to a snug fit around the waist which is vital for the look of the jacket.
Beautiful coat!Noticed a couple of vintage items on Etsy recently that are similar.I must stop searching for horsehide!

Thanks Michael
I tried several searches and found many pages under check wool fabric so will browse these.I am also smitten by the jacket worn by Adam Goldberg in A Beautiful Mind so may look for a heavier weight fabric in order to re-create one of these using a donor jacket
