I bought this on ebay from a seller in Japan who wanted way too much for it. I talked him down to still too much, but I think I got my money's worth, even if I paid over what Vanson is charging for a new one right now.
I'm pretty sure this is my first octagon leather, and it's really nice...
It's tough to assess how something feels through photos or written testimony.
I've noticed some leather feels soft/spongy, and wondered about why that is. I have to assume it has to do with the process the leather went through to become leather, but I don't know anything about it, really. It...
I've been a bit quiet over the winter, and have slowed down on new acquisitions, mainly because I pretty much have everything I need and no room for anything more. I have a lot to photograph and comment on when I can get to it, and then some to sell. With the light being better, I might be able...
It looks very different from "natural" CXL, which, I thought, was undyed, hence "natural" colored leather.
I haven't previously heard of this "unfinished" CXL, which is clearly something other than what Aero and Thurston have been selling as "natural CXL".
So I'm very curious now, what is...
My recent home project was to set up a walk-in closet in a spare room. This rack has about 240 linear inches of hang rail and if I only store jackets on it, I think I can get close to the whole collection on it, maybe. However, the rack is rated for 330 lbs, so I'm not sure if it's a good idea...
What it comes down to is that the seller can set the price, and entertain offers, or not. That's all there is to it. If they set a reasonable price, and decline lower offers, then they may eventually get what they asked for. Or they may wait a long time. Time is often more valuable than money.
I've handled a couple in person.
- A United Arrows J31 clone (freewheelers centinela). It was a hell of a lot cheaper than a real FW, and for what I paid for it, actually a good value. Leather wasn't bad. Unfortunately it was a size too small for me, and the previous owner had cut off the...
I imagine that in the 1990s a Wilson jacket probably cost around $200 or so, which would put Natal in the neighborhood of $400? Does that sound approximately right?
Do you know much about the company at all? Where they were headquartered, what years they were in operation, what kind of leather they used, or anything else that would be of interest? I've always wondered how much their jackets sold for new.
The Oxford and the Enfield both look a lot alike, the main difference being that the Enfield has no center seam down the back (a plus, if you ask me). Vanson's site says that the Oxford is the Model D, but with a shirt collar, while they describe the Enfield as a casual, looser fit jacket. So...
