No, there's no Cavanagh Edge beneath the edge binding. I was very curious about the liner in this hat, so I'm glad I was able to resolve the question about it being the original liner.
1940's Dobbs Twenty. Has 2 3/8 inch bound brim and 5 3/4 inch open crown. Very nice felt. Need to shape the crown. It has that thin onionskin over the liner. I think this liner design is considered a 50's design, but this liner is sewn into the hat and gives every indication that it's the...
1930's Stetson Stetsonian Clear Nutria. Has 2 1/8 inch Reinforced Edge and 6 inch open crown, although the mfg tag says the Depth is 5 5/8 inches. Lot Number 6565, which I estimate dates to about 1933-1934. I really don't see anything Reinforced about this brim edge unless it's been trimmed off...
Same hat after being cleaned and reshaped and the original sweatband being sewn back on at Paris Hatters. Looks good as new! I had said this was a late 1930's hat, but it could date into the very early 1940's.
G W Alexander Boy Scout campaign hat. The texture of the sweatband is the same as on the U S military campaign hat in my post #45 above here. It's not smooth but has a look that vaguely resembles tree bark, etc. This Scout hat seems to date somewhere from the 1910's to the mid 1930's.
Caxton Phoenix 4X Beaver Twelve-Fifty. Has 3 3/4 inch brim. I would leave the original crease in the hat except it makes the crown so shallow that the hat just barely sits on the very top of my head.
