Very cool. The No. 1s are typically very good hats.
Yes, it’s a great hat. Nice felt between western and dress weight. I’ve been toying with the idea of reducing the brim width, though, either with a pencil curl or outright trimming.

More pics of Hap Corey hat. The hatbox that it came with I've posted on the Hatbox Homage thread.

Stetson Number 1 Quality Campaign hat, Lot Number 4780. I estimate the hat dates about 1921 based on a hat with Lot Number 5066 that has a 1922 date on it's hatband, on pg 15 of the Stetson Lot Number thread.

Stetson Number 1 Quality. Has 3 1/4 inch brim and 7 inch open crown. Lot Number 7479, so dates to late 1930's to 1940-41. There were no mfg tags in the hat. This hat is fairly similar to my Hap Corey hat on this same page. One additional note about the hat: I noticed that there were no original threads attaching the sweatband to the hat, only a few random more modern threads. This made me wonder if someone had counterfeited a Stetson hat by putting a Stetson sweatband and liner into some random hat, but I compared the hat to my Hap Corey hat, also a Number 1 Quality Stetson of the same period, and the felt and brim binding are the same. I don't know what the number 1684 written inside the hat and on a paper tag on the sweatband represent unless they are a sign that the hat was worked on at some time in the past.

Sized up from 7 1/8 to 7 1/4+ and reshaped just a bit.
Re-Flanged the 4” mobile shade, and curled the 1/8” bound brim edge, slightly.
Looks to be an early 40s model considering the gold bound size tag and sewn rear seam on the sweatband. If there ever was a liner it was gone when I got it.

The 1684 tag is most certainly a dry cleaners or hatters tag.
When customers peice are brought in they are all individually tagged and recorded to invoice for each customer.

If the sweat was separated from the hat the hat would have the same number marked inside it to keep track (probebly on the liner too) so they could be reunited in the proccess.

Same thing is done for textiles (clothing) with matching belts, separating trims etc.

Hard to date as many of these were printed for a long time.....the design of the tags my shop uses go back to at least the 40's and are still printed today.

Awesome find, and the cleaners tag makes it even more interesting.....;)
