Looking good
Gilgamark, that hat is looking really good on you, the proportions are very good. The mid-gray looks downright blue on my screen, but maybe that's just the lighting. How does the felt feel?
Outstanding
Jazzcat, I like everything about that hat - color, shape, ribbon - looks like the perfect Milan to me. I don't even want to know how much it was - ignorance means I won't have to make a tough decision....
Middle ground
If you want to step up from a Hat-Jack, and don't want to get the full-size hat-stretching golem above, I recommend this:

I picked one up a while back and it has a couple of advantages. First, the working surface is...
Hey Benny - I'm mulling a navy blue Stylemaster. Do you still have yours? Any pics or could you describe the felt and ribbon color? I'd love to hear what it looks like. Thanks, Carl

For hot humid NC, you might consider the Akubra Capricorn, a polypro straw recently getting a good review on the lounge:

They're quite inexpensive - maybe add one to your Campdraft order to take advantage of multiple hat...
I hope that's true - I've never had a high-crown hat that looked right on me, so this is experimental. I figure it's less expensive to try a low-cost Campdraft and see how it goes - if I don't like it, it can always go to a fellow lounger at a discount. I'm about 90% set on taupe fawn, as I...
Yes, yes, you guys are high-LARRY-us --- obviously, I'll be SAVING money by ordering a Campdraft in every available color at the same time --- wait, I've got to put more ice in my Kool-Aid, it's getting warm and tastes funny.... :p
Damn
I finally read this complete thread as I am putting together an order at EA and am trying to decide between adding Campdraft in taupe fawn vs. silverbelly to my order. Now I see there's a glen gray available at HD - this isn't helping me make up my mind for some reason, guys....
Large size update
I received an update to my previous email from EA, to whit:
Hi Carl,
I spoke with Akubra again today and they told me new information that the
Capricorn can be made as a size 62 with the original leather hatband but
this would make it an indent order and would thus take 3...
DJ - did you not receive my PM last week? I missed your initial FL listing of the derby and you set it up on ebay - I PM'd you that if it didn't sell, I hoped you would contact me. Is this all moot now that the auction has been restarted?
Capricorn in size 62 - almost
Per Hatdoc's suggestion, I emailed EA re: larger sizes of the Capricorn. Here's their reply:
Hi Carl,
Thank you for your email, after speaking with Akubra I can give you a
definitive answer; The Capricorn cannot be made in a size 62, however it can
be...
Sweet remodel
That's a very nice job on reshaping that lid --- makes me think I might be able to reshape a modern OR without having to wait for HATCO to issue one with an open crown.
I'd definitely go with a medium brown or blue suit, cream shirt and red vintage tie with that hat....
Yep, what he said...
I was going to say what DJ said, but as he said it first and better than I would have, he saved me the trouble. It's a job, not a collection of new best buddies who need to accept the real and bona-fide "you". If you're lucky, you'll be able to wear your hat to work...
I like that idea, Davidson. I've been avoiding keeping hats in boxes for the reason you mention - interior hat rests sound like the ticket.
I've also considered shortening or lengthening the legs on every other hat rest on my shelves so the hats can be moved closer together without the brims...
I have a couple of problems with the standard hat rest that every vendor seems to sell. The first is that they are barely big enough to hold a 7-3/4 hat. The second is that they are very light – when I go to pick up my hat, I often bump the hatrest backwards on the shelf, pushing the hat into...
