There's a decent detail photo here:

The brim is listed as 70mm (2-3/4). I like the bound brim, but not the turndown in the back. FWIW there is the Joe Fedora, a polypro hat with 2-3/4 brim that I...
Thanks for this link - I hadn't noticed this hat before - the Rink comes in sizes 62-64, unlike the Capricorn which stops at 61. The Capricorn comes in some pretty nice colors, gray looks nice.
Sydney in charcoal
All five pictures are of the same hat, Akubra Sydney in charcoal. They were photographed with and without flash. The ones on the left are in plain daylight. In fact, this is the same hat as in Skyvue's pics - he took the hat off my hands as I didn't like the proportions on...
That Capricorn is sweet - it would be very stylin' to wear in a kayak. If it came in size 62 I'd have at least two by now - gray and fawn probably. You've got to figure the Aussies know how to do a hot-weather hat correctly.
Another option
I wear a polypro Joe fedora for kayaking - it has also stood up very well to a 2-week vacation in Cape Breton with rain...every...single...day... It has a fairly open weave so is significantly cooler than my straw. You clean it by dunking in water and scrubbing if necessary. It...

BK - that reminds me - for a while I worked at a NASA facility in NYC. One of the senior scientists (very smart guy) was from England. He had about six outfits - Carnaby Street type suit from the sixties, which was probably the first time he had money for clothes. They were really great, vintage...
Hmmmm
citRon, that Taupe Fawn Campdraft appears to be speaking my name --- plus it comes in size 62 --- and the exchange rate is looking good --- I'd be saving money by ordering that hat, right? I mean, I'd be a fool not to, yes???? JohnnyB, your color matching comments are on point and have...
Whoa
Sorry Carter, I definitely was not offended by your remark, my post was obviously not clear. What I meant to say that as there seems to be an upswing in the quality of Stetson felts lately, particularly Sovereign, that there's a good chance the hat may be really nice. But as always...
I have a Sovereign Chatham that is really nice - also, Besdor posted that the felt on the Whippet II was very high quality. There's no need to jump to conclusions about a hat that hasn't made it to market yet, is there?
Splitting hairs (felts?)
Actually, since the Whippet II is Sovereign quality, technically it would be a bound-edge Chatham as the Downs is Royal felt. But this is just hairsplitting --- the Whippet II is the right name for it. And the Nostalgia should remain the Nostalgia, as we may become...
Thanks
Wow, from my recent shopping excursions, I'd say 75% of the suits I saw in Syms (mostly from higher end RTW) and 90% of what I saw in Lord & Taylor have double vents and only 2 buttons - very frustrating. I'm with Douglas and Nick D, my body type is not suited for double vents - they...
Thanks Tomasso, but there's no way I'm looking for a new tailor - it's taken me years to find someone with her skill. She's opinionated and very competent, much more so than the last three (male) tailors I've used. My only regret is that the man with the custom tailor shop across the street...
A couple of years ago, I got a good deal on a nice Hickey-Freeman tweed suit, 3-button, double vent with a no-lapel vest. Except for this suit, all of mine are 3-button, no vents. At the time, the salesmen said I could have a tailor close the vents. I didn't really believe him and my tailor, a...
Yep
Like Doran above, I'm in academia. I teach at an engineering school where the majority of students are in uniform, i.e. 'the regiment' which is required by the coast guard for maritime students. I started out fairly casual like the rest of the faculty. But it felt wrong to be dressed worse...
