Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

<---The hat in my avatar, letting it go in the classifieds because it's too small. Marked 7 3/4 but really more like 7 1/4. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380227408547

    SOLD: **50's Park Crest silverbelly Open Road/Stratoliner clone, size 7 1/4 - 7 3/8**

Here is a nice Open Road-style fur felt fedora from a maker I frankly don't know much about, Park Crest Hats, New York. I believe it was a small custom hat maker, and from what I can tell from this one, they made pretty darn good hats. I bought it off eBay because it was marked as 7 3/4, but...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Ultrafino isn't well regarded around here (just ask Panamabob), but the hat looks nice and for 35 bucks you can't really go wrong. Haven't seen you around before, so welcome to the Lounge!

    Prom

How about a boater with a black band for a little Maurice Chevalier flair? At your age, it might come off as costume-y, though, and even at advanced ages few could pull it off as well as Chevalier did.

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

It definitely didn't look like a 4 1/2" crown to me either, or a 3" brim. I was also thinking 5" crown and between 2 3/8" or 2 1/2" for the brim. I would have had less trepidation if it had been a size 7 3/4. I can get away with 7 5/8 sometimes, but it's likely it wouldn't have fit well. I'm...

Congratulations on that one. I figured I would get outbid right at the end, and I could have gone higher, but I'm about to have to shell out money for plumbing repairs and was hoping I could luck out and get it on the cheap.

    Knox Boater - Men's or Women's?

That one looks more strictly feminine (maybe that's because of the tilt and the sweep of the brim, and the fact that it's on a female manikin). Yours looks like a regular boater a man would wear, except black. Of course, women wore them too, and even if yours was meant for a woman to wear, it...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

That's your local hat man's opinion. What works for some may not work for others. It depends on the length and shape of your face. Some guys look better with the hat tilted back to show more forehead.

That Cross Country is great, Mr. L! :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap I'm wearing the Panamabob Optimo I got from you. I replaced the band with a pleated pug. I dig it.

    Panama Hat Thread

PB Optimo Cuenca - generic grosgrain + pleated pug = :) . An improvement, in my opinion. That narrow grosgrain band with no bow wasn't cutting it. I'm diggin' this hat even more now.

That'd be yours truly. :) I replaced the rather "meh" hatband with a black pleated puggaree. Looks much better to my eyes.

    Post New Hats Here!

Panamabob Optimo Cuenca Just received it from Lounge member Mr. Lucky, who found the brim too wide for him. It has a cloth sweatband, and it fits well. It's not quite LO enough for me, but it's flexible and will conform with wear. The brim's slightly wonky, but it won't take much effort...
