I mailed the Scala boater back to where it came from today and then took my first trip to The Executive Shop in downtown Atlanta. They had a pretty decent selection of hats, including Ponte Rialto boaters from Italy. Big improvement in quality over the Scala. It is stiff and substantial, the...
That would probably be your best bet if you don't want it anymore. It's hard to find a trade for a specific hat for another specific hat that is a very different style.
Why do you want to get rid of that nice Homburg? I would hang on to it if I were you, and save up and buy a Whippet on eBay or from a Lounger. As nice as that Homburg is, I doubt you'll get many takers because a vintage Whippet is one of those sought-after "prestige" hats that fedora...
I'd like to find some ribbon like this for it. This is an Archer that someone posted in this thread earlier, similar contruction.
I'll probably go with plain black ribbon, though.
Here's an almost identical Dobbs that just ended on eBay. It looks more beat up, but it has the ribbon.
Silly rabbit, stingies are for kids! lol
Not really, though. Sinatra could rock a stingy like nobody's business. I agree with flute that most people look better with a wider brim. I'm ashamed to admit that I watch American Idol because my wife likes to watch it, and one thing that really...
I do like the Scala; I think it looks pretty good and it's comfortable, but I don't like that I paid too much for it, and I don't like the crookedness of the brim. It's not your head, they all seem to be like that. I see it in every picture I see of the Scala boaters; the brim doesn't jut...
Holy schnikes! That's unbelievable. I mean, it's nice and all, but I can't see that there's anything special about it that would warrant that kind of price. Especially at a size 6 7/8. I guess the seller just put in the right keywords, like Gatsby and steampunk, which draws the cosplayers...
I think I cleaned up on this one thanks to the seller not putting either "Dobbs" or "boater" in the title. It's missing the hatband, but I can slap a puggaree on it or make a grosgrain ribbon and it'll be good to go. I love the style, what I call the "wicker boater" even though I'm sure...
Alright, I got my boater from Hugestore.com. It's nice to have one that fits me (I ordered a 7 5/8...a little snug, but I have a feeling that with a 7 3/4 it would just sit on the top of my head with without enough friction on the sides to make me feel that it would stay on my head.) Although...
Funny you should mention it, but we were just discussing Henry the Hatter's and Detroit in the Boater Faction thread. Apparently that's the place to go.
