Ernest, that black pug made a big improvement in that Scala boater. Makes it more versatile, doesn't it?
I just came back to the hotel from my brother-in-law's wedding in Fayetteville, TN...an outdoor afternoon wedding. Anybody that was in Tennessee today knows that that amounts to cruel and...
I forgot, I guess I can throw in here now. Just got this circa 1950 Royal Stetson Open Road the other day. Sweatband had to be replaced because of dry rot, and the ribbon's not in the best of shape either. Looks like whoever had this baby before really used it.
I have one, and it is a good hat. Their delivery times are great, too. It came in less than two days. The only problem I had with it was that the brim wanted to keep snapping back up, but just a little bit of steam fixed that easily.
Funny how they both have the exact same effed-up brim shape. Looks more Crazy Guggenheim than Michael Jackson (and this is beside the point, but Frank Fontaine was a better singer if you ask me).
I can't confirm it for sure, but it definitely says on their website that they're sold out. Since it's a limited edition, I wouldn't think they'd be getting any more in. You can always go to hatsdirect.com, but yeah, I'd want to order from EA if I could, if only because it's cheaper.
'50 or so size 7 5/8 Royal Deluxe Open Road in, in rougher condition than I anticipated. You don't even want to see the inside. The sweatband was starting to dry rot and crack, so I had to have it replaced, which is a shame.
Looks great, is that the sand color or silverbelly? It'a hard to tell in photos sometimes. I have a silverbelly on order, and I'm hoping it will arrive in time for my birthday...in September. Oh, the agony of waiting.
More than likely they just don't know any better. There's another more standard looking boater they have for sale, and they have it listed as a "Panama boater" as well.
I just ran across this while googling hat blocks. http://www.hatshapers.com/ I don't know if they're any good or not, but it could be a cheap alternative to wooden blocks for a do-it-yourself-er.
