Rank and Patches on Military Jackets - Might I Offend a Veteran?

First of all, thank you Carlisle Blues for your service/sacrifice to your country. Secondly, thank you for your reasoning on re-enactors wearing insignia. Most WW2 vets I know who are still with us do not mind respectful re-enacting, as long as we do not push the "Pretending" beyond the event.

    The Commodore introduces himself

The destruction of the Silver Swan was truly a tragedy. Watching the video was quite disturbing. Seems like not enough was done to save her from the wrecking ball.:(

    A Family at War

A Family at War was aired by PBS in the New York area in 1975 an 1976. I was so hooked on it that, as a newly-wed, I annoyed my young bride:o (still my life's joy) by refusing to do anything else when the show came on TV. Looking back, I do see that I might have been a bit selfish(and fortunate...

Fletch, what kind of manual typewriter will you display?

    Show us your vintage home!

Vitanola, my sympathy also. Airgrabber, that is a charming house. Is it in Bridgeton? I lived in Millville from '81 to '84. My insurance claims adjusting job took me to Bridgeton on occasion. I have been in rural Pennsylvania since then.

    "A Scent of History"

My father smoked a pipe with Borkum Riff tobacco. My mother cleaned the kitchen floor with pine sol. Those aromas bring me back 50 years.

    Woman Lives 1930s Lifestyle

In this rural part of Pennsylvania we are surrounded by Amish who live in the mid 1800s for the most part. Horse and buggy transportation, houses with no utilities and very plain lifestyles. I look out the rear window of my church and can watch four or five draft horses pulling a plow with the...

    Won this Inaccurate A-2 Knockoff...cheap!

Dean, I have a similar jacket with leather cuffs and waist band that I picked up about 10 years ago at a garage sale for $3. It is comfortable for casual wear and I don't mind explaining to those who ask that it is NOT an A-2 in any reasonable sense of the word.

A2's: Wear 'em or Collect 'em?

OneEyedMan, there are many different "A-2" versions out there. You can find a version to please your taste and budget that has hidden hand warmer pockets. Just do a thorough job of researching all your options. Since you are not conderned about total accuracy you are bound to find the...

    Show us your vintage home!

MBlack I see that you are in Pennsylvania. There is much more rural acreage in the commonwealth than there are paved over lots and cheap developments. Wild life have always wandered onto roads that cut through their habitat and sadly, there is too much road-kill even in this more rural part...

    My "mission" back in time.

You had a rare treat, Tophat Dan. Those special aircraft are limited in number as you know. When one becomes grounded(or crashes, God forbid) there is nothing to replace it. Cherish not only the memories but any photos you may have of the event.

SherriBomb, Thanks for the thread. Your boyfriend is off to a good start in sharing his hobby. It is a good way to learn about history.

What sparked your fascination with the "Golden Era"?

It is essential to know something about history. Customs and activities of years ago give us a peek into the lives of our ancestors. It wasn't all the "good old days" but we learn how people strived and coped with the circumstances of their times. The "Golden Age" is just part of that past...

    Show us your vintage home!

LordBest has a gem of a house. My wife's grandparents had one with similar features that was built in the early 1920's. Developers came by in the late 60's and demolished all the houses on the block. They were replaced with 20storey apartment buildings. It's sad when "progress" means...
