I'll recommend the Dobbs Soul. Very nice light pearlescent grey color that looks almost white in sunlight. It's soft and light for a milan straw and has a very comfortable cloth sweatband. Great for hot weather.
Speaking of I'll-fitting hats, this promotional image for Mad Men bothered the heck outta me.
Not the girl, but the guy on the right. That hat looks like it doesn't even come close to fitting.
AMC, which stands for "American Movie Classics," practically a misnomer because they don't show many movies anymore, and most of them can't be considered "classics." However, they are American, so that much is true. Not that I'm complaining, though, because AMC was a joke for years compared to...
Neophyte, your Campdraft bash is looking a little too good. I'm starting to get jealous. :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap
I wouldn't mind seeing some detailed shots, you know, top, front and side.
That's also the one I find most agreeable, Art. I don't like how the ribbon drapes down over the flange, but I do like the color and stitching of the ribbon itself.
Does it look like something like this?
This is the current production model Golden Pheasant. It's a Tyrolean (aka Bavarian) velour hat, and although I could be wrong, I don't think you'll find a great many fans of that style on the Lounge. At least I don't see very many here, except from...
Get a bottle of distilled water from the grocery store and while you're there, get a brand new empty spray bottle. Just spray the crown enough to get it good and damp, not dripping wet, and do your thing.
I've no idea either, because it looks great to me! Very nice job. :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap
If you wet it, it'll be easier to smooth out the little kinks here and there and the bash will stay put better. Just like it is, I really see no problems with it, though. It goes well with that...
Thanks, Spats.
For illustrative purposes, here's a topside view.
And from the side you don't see the hump (I don't it when it sticks up higher than the sides, either).
Looks great! Can we see the top?
If I had to make a suggestion, it would be to lower the back of the crown a little so you have a nice slope from the apex of the crown down to the back. That's more personal preference, but it does create a nice profile from the side, and it uses up some...
Like I said before, a hand-shaped hat is always a work in progress. I noticed that the dents just weren't doing it for me, so I made them a little deeper and extended them back further. I don't like real sharp dents, so this is about perfect for me.
