Hi all, I'm in the process of ordering an Aero Buco J-100, and I'm wondering whether I want to keep the default placement of the sleeve zips (on "top" of the sleeves) or move them down to the "bottom" of the sleeves. From what I've read here, I understand that bottom sleeve zips can be annoying...
Hi all! I finally pulled the trigger on an Aero Buco J-100, and just received my fit jacket from Thurston Bros. Thanks to everyone's advice on this forum so far!
I think the fit jacket fits almost perfectly, except the sleeves are a little long. I also notice a slight ripple near my left...
I'm right in the same boat as you! Except you have actually made a decision and taken a distinct step forward, whereas I'm still in the "planning" phase, LOL. (As a mini-update, I'm still waiting for a sample of Diamond Dave's Horween Chormexcel horsehide to see how I like that.)
Regarding your...
Ya know, those pictures Carrie sent me are frankly surprising, as the jacket appears to have a very high sheen whereas, based on the sample I received, I was expecting something much more matte...so now I'm just confused as to what it really looks like in person.
Thanks for sharing these pics!! It's great to finally see a pic of this leather as a completed jacket. I can't tell you how long I've spent trying to visualize how the sample of this leather would look as a jcket. I do have some follow-up questions...sorry for so many!
In the comparison pics...
Thanks. I am looking for something matte, and also prefer a lighter-weight, thinner leather as I live in southern California. However, Denny said that the soft steer is actually ever-so-slightly thicker than Vicenza...
Oh great! Yes, Denny is the person I've been dealing with also, who arranged sending me a sample of the soft steer.
Having had experience with it in person, albeit very limited, could you maybe describe the leather? And is it as shiny and pebble-grained as in the pics above? To me the pics...
Would love to hear your thoughts once you receive the jacket. I'm especially curious as to whether the pics I posted are pretty representative of the leather.
Oh yes, I also received a sample of Aero's relatively new soft black Italian horsehide! Would you mind sharing some pics of the final jacket? Even though I have a sample in hand, I just can't seem to find any pics of an actual jacket.
I love the new blackened-brown Vicenza! If I go with Vicenza that is definitely the color I would choose. But for some reason, based on the sample I received and pics of it, I don't think I'm a huge fan of Vicenza's aesthetics. Now, drape and softness may be a different story...
Yeah! I actually received a sample of this leather directly from Aero, and I must say, the pics of the completed jacket are not what I was expecting. I was expecting a lower sheen and perhaps a different grain pattern. And based on the sample of Aero goat and Vicenza that I also received, the...
Sure, here are the pics I received from Carrie. Based on the file names, this appears to be a ladies jacket, which is perhaps why this specific leather isn't known around here.
Hi all, does anyone own or have additional pics of Aero's "black soft steerhide"? It doesn't seem like a popular choice, but I received a few pics from Carrie at Thurston and I am intrigued. Thanks!
Yeah, Doctor Strange did recommend Wested to me also. I see that they do make a cafe racer which looks reasonably similar to a Buco J-100: http://www.wested.com/firenze-retro-blouson-style-jacket-in-brown-nappa-lambskin-1691-p.asp. I see that it's in brown lambskin, but I'm assuming they could...
True. So I guess I'll need to be more specific in asking about particular leathers from particular makers.
Yeah, I saw Johnson mentioned earlier in this thread, and may give them a holler.
Also, I hear horsehide takes a long time to break in, and even then, it sometimes has a tendency to keep flexing back towards its old shape. Are there thinner or softer versions of horsehide that are easier to wear?
