    Thin, lightweight cafe racer jacket?

Don't be sorry at all! Thanks for all the info--I appreciate as many data points and points of view as possible. Of course, at the end of the day I will simply have to pull the trigger! Right now, it seems like Diamond Dave's Buco J-100 in Horween horsehide is the absolute thinnest leather I...

    Thin, lightweight cafe racer jacket?

Thanks--yes, goat is definitely in the running. Aero's goat is slightly lighter weight than their Vicenza horsehide.

    Thin, lightweight cafe racer jacket?

That makes sense. I just learned that Aero's Vicenza is also 3 oz.!

    Thin, lightweight cafe racer jacket?

That looks AWESOME! If I end up with a J-100 that fits me this well, I will be a happy camper indeed. Yes, the Horween HH specs line right up with what Dave told me yesterday--2.5 to 3 oz. is exactly what he said. I was just surprised it was thinner than Shinki. The drape looks great on that...

    Thin, lightweight cafe racer jacket?

Carrie @ Thurston just informed me that their thinnest offerings for Aero is Vicenza (3 oz.) and goatskin (2.75 oz.)--so unfortunately no unusual leathers right now. As far as lambskin, I am open to the idea, but it seems like none of the quality makers we've discussed here even offer it. Do you...

    Thin, lightweight cafe racer jacket?

Yeah, and I just heard back from Carrie @ Thurston: Aero's Vicenza is 3 oz., and even their goat is 2.75 oz. Those are currently the thinnest hides they offer.

    Thin, lightweight cafe racer jacket?

I see...so theoretically it would be possible for Horween to "carry"/process Vicenza or Shinki? Also, does Chromexcel simply refer to a tanning process which can also be applied to various types of leathers? At any rate, I was surprised that Shinki is not the thinnest leather that Diamond Dave...

    Thin, lightweight cafe racer jacket?

Guys, I've just had some very interesting correspondence with Diamond Dave, where I posed to him some of my same questions from here. Currently he only has Shinki and Horween Chromexcel horsehide available for jackets (no goatskin), and the Horween is actually a lighter weight! The Shinki is...

Thanks for the discussion on specific weights--that is very helpful to know.

    Thin, lightweight cafe racer jacket?

Ah yes, the pebbling of goat! I've read about that a lot here but haven't found any really good pictures. I'm not sure if I would like pebbling--is it just as it sounds? Kind of hard to picture. And I just reached out to Dave, and he can get black, russet, and seal Shinki--so that's great!

    Thin, lightweight cafe racer jacket?

Thanks ProteinNerd, very solid info! Have you ever compared Vicenza to Aero's goatskin? Also, is Diamond Dave's Shinki only available in black? The Brooks is getting a lot of love, so maybe I'll keep an eye on out on eBay.

    Thin, lightweight cafe racer jacket?

Good point--I emailed ELMC to see if the Italian horsehide they use on their J-100 is the same as Eastman uses on the A-2.

    Thin, lightweight cafe racer jacket?

Wow, those prices are phenomenal! Unfortunately I'll need to rule this option out as it's important to me to get the perfect fit nailed down.

    Thin, lightweight cafe racer jacket?

Ooh, I've seen pics of Aero's seal goatskin, which I love! I'm sure the seal Vicenza is similarly great. Now, I notice for Vicenza they also do a DARK seal, which is very intriguing to me.

Thanks Gamma68! I did catch your thread, and really appreciated it. You're right that the 654 meets MOST of my criteria--I mainly just wish it had chest pockets!

    Thin, lightweight cafe racer jacket?

Got it! I'm trying my best to collect data points based on everyone's experiences (which, admittedly, is somewhat subjective). So far I've got that Aero's Vicenza horsehide is pretty similar to their goatskin, which are both a little thicker than Eastman's Italian horsehide.

Any idea how Lost Worlds' 3 oz. horsehide compares to Aero's Vicenza horsehide?

    Thin, lightweight cafe racer jacket?

Thanks--good to hear from people who have direct experience with both Vicenza horsehide and Aero's goatskin. Also, I agree with you about the sheen on the Sheene (ha!)--definitely acceptable to me, although I feel like it's less pronounced because of the brown color.

    Thin, lightweight cafe racer jacket?

Thank you! I feel like I got lucky. I also think the jacket fits well, but again, I have no basis for comparison--so it's great to get an objective second opinion. If only Schott offered chest zips on their 654VN!

    Thin, lightweight cafe racer jacket?

Yeah, I agree that Schott seems to do more "matte" leathers than other companies. Thanks for the tip on ELMC--haven't looked at them before, but their Buco J-100 looks great! And seems to very similarly priced to Aero. The ELMC J-100 claims to use an Italian vegetable-tanned horsehide, so I'm...
