Thanks Fanch...I realize the sleeves may be a bit on the short side, but that's what I tend to prefer. At any rate, Carrie says she can add 0.75" no problem.
The center vertical back seam is an interesting proposition. I have no issues with it aesthetically, and I understand it does provide for...
Alright guys! I received the fit jacket in a size smaller (size 38) and have posted pics. As before, I'm posting four pics (front, back, both sides) of the jacket zipped, and four of the jacket unzipped. Why unzipped, you may ask? Well, living in southern California, I rarely plan to zip up the...
Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, it doesn't feel super-stiff right out of the box, and it's good to know that it will get softer--I guess I'm trying to determine if it will get a LOT softer, or marginally softer.
Thanks for the input--yes, I also theorized initially that some of that bagginess in the back was due to the initial stiffness of the leather, even though it's Vicenza. At any rate, I will try one size down, as I found that even though the front of the jacket looks like a pretty trim fit, I...
Thanks for the replies, all! I realize that Buco J-100s typically have the sleeve zips on the top, but in my head I thought they would look a little too prominent and so I'm considering moving them to the bottom.
However, it's kind of interesting--when I lay the jacket down flat, the sleeves...
This is a great suggestion. So what are the main differences between the cafe racer and board racer?
I think, as a starting point, I will try one size down on the J-100 board racer style. Upon closer inspection, I realized I have more room in the chest than I thought, so maybe sizing down will...
Thanks a lot for this!! This is great info--I would assume it's possible to do a Buco J-100 style based off a cafe racer pattern, but it's great to see a finished product.
Now, is the main difference between a cafe racer and a board racer that the cafe racer is tapered?
Yes, exactly--I hardly ever need to zip up here. So I'm completely fine with a jacket that might be slightly uncomfortable when zipped up.
And now that I just tried on the jacket again, I agree that the sleeve circumference is a little larger than I'd like. Hopefully this is something that they...
That's a good thought--but can't we go the reverse route and take a J-100, then customize that to fit more like a cafe racer? I understand that jackets are based on patterns, but maybe I overestimate the amount of deviation one can do from a stock pattern size.
Those are good thoughts. Aesthetically I prefer the Buco J-100 style back, but not enough to compromise the correct fit.
At this point, I'm thinking to try on a J-100 fit jacket in one size smaller and get some pictures of that...
Thanks for the detailed observations, I appreciate it! Regarding zipping up the jacket, I'm kind of the opposite since I live in mild southern California--I rarely need to zip up any of my jackets.
I agree with your observations. Regarding the sleeves being too large, do you mean too long, or...
Hi all, I realize that Vicenza is a relatively recent offering, but for those who have been wearing it heavily since the beginning--how much softer has it become since brand new, and how long has it taken to get that softness?
I just tried on a fit jacket in Vicenza and I really like it. It's...
Up at the top of the jacket, even with just a T-shirt or Henley it's already pretty snug. When I get home maybe I'll try and stuff in a layer.
If I want to try on a different size of the fit jacket, does Thurston charge me extra?
Thanks for all your thoughts! Yes, I did think the back looked baggy but wasn't sure if it had anything to do with the initial stiffness of the leather.
I think sizing down (this is a 40) is not an option because the jacket fits my shoulders perfectly, in fact perhaps a touch too narrow. So it...
