Exactly what I'll do. Thank you very much!
Does anyone know (or have any pics of people proofing jackets) how the factory reproofs their jackets? (Tools? Perhaps a tube that feeds an end sponge with a consistent supply of hot wax which one just 'rolls' on like paint). Just curious.
I've made a mess on mine (first attempt), I'd like to ask if there are areas of the jacket that have more wax (blotches of) than others, over time, would they 'even' out?
It's almost an embarrassment how I've waxed this thing (even though I've used the hairdryer, followed the...
Would I be correct in getting the above jacket from www.flightjacket.com?
It looks the same, though I'm not certain.
And are those two leathers the same?
Gotcha. It's being returned as we speak.
I wish there was a sticky on here for "What a real A2 looks like" with that image. There are so many images/variations on here that it gets a bit confusing.
Thanks everyone.
I bought this jacket today (on sale for $249, MSRP $549) and while I really like how wide the collar is, the leather seems to be extremely thin (though super supple). So thin in fact that you could bet to rip it with little effort (stretching it gently you could hear the fibers crackle).
I...
So I've been looking everywhere online for (non-suede) leather elbowed sweaters and they are either a) incredibly expensive ($250+) or b) suede.
I've actually went to a thrift store and purchased some leather jackets to cut up (like the one in my pic). I traced and cut into the leather using...
Thanks for the link. Although they don't carry the black with the modern tartan swatch. I have to look elsewhere.
I just received the jacket today. The construction quality and attention to detail is definitely, immaculate.
I now can't wait till it rains.
So I've bit the bullet and ordered a black Barbour Bedale and should be arriving tomorrow or so. I can finally chuck my nylons (I hate the sound of them when moving around).
I hope there is some 'breathability' in the Bedale. Now I gotta find a place that stocks a resonably-priced black hood...
Awh man! Are you serious? Damn. :eusa_doh:
I think I'll contact Barbour to be sure. Everything else is right on spec.
*update* - I just got off the phone with Barbour and they said it's not one of their logos but perhaps like you said, a company/bulk buy. I think I'll still get it anyway. I'm...
So I'm thinking of settling down and ordering the bedale as my raincoat to deal with the dreadful weather we're having in New England these days.
Though does anyone know or have this particular Barbour logo on the pockets of their Barbour jacket? I'm not sure if this is an 'official' new logo...
Exactly. No offense to anyone, but if anything the 184SM outspecs (in terms of quality) the repros from what I've seen and felt. The naked cowhide on the 184SM is just perfect. Very thick, heavy, supple and I've got some beautiful creases going in many areas of the jacket.
From what I've seen...
You mean they'll post here on the Fedora Lounge? I will do that then to see their jackets. Thanks!
Not yet, but I will look into it thanks. Although I'm not a fan of 'capes' over shoulders. They do look pretty rugged though. I tend to favour Barbour's level of stiffness (which is not very).
I...
Can anyone offer opinions/comparisons on quality with respect to the Barbour jackets?
- Oxford Blue waxed cottons
- Westfield waxed cottons
I have only tried on the Barbour jackets and although nice, I find the price tag to be a tad ridiculous for what it is. But I do need a raincoat here...
I like the inset sleeves better on the border jackets, but I don't like the long lengths of them. If the international jacket had the same long collars as the bedale/beaufort/border line (though I understand that it's a matter of function against the wind).
Until they release a bedale-like...
When I received my cowhide, it was very stiff. But over the period of 2-3 months it is now super buttery smooth and flexible. The break-in period for these jackets are quite short.
I haven't had the chance to try on a waxed Barbour jacket (I just own the Barbour Tartan Galloway jacket) but I probably will soon (I noticed a Barbour store in Boston's Newbury street).
I know there are much cheaper alternatives out there (and perhaps of better quality?). I don't know too...
Nice. I love it when leathers develop/contain favorable regions like that to where you go for a 'feel' every now and then.
The creasing can be due to many factors. But I would guess that it could be from the particular region of the animal it was cut from (like from the shoulder to the...
Being it my first Schott jacket ever, my jacket's stitching is actually pretty rugged (Have had it about a year now though). My only complaint about it (and perhaps it's common of all A-2s) is that the knits don't possess a strong elasticity as I would like (I want something that'll pretty much...
