When can you call your style vintage and when not to?

I actually don't own one stitch of actual vintage clothing, save for a 1950s nightie, but I get complicated on my "vintage" style all the time. I only have a few repro dresses as well - everything else is modern, I just buy what might have a classic cut or fit, and then pair it with more vintage...

Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

Tonight I was asked at a conference (which had a 1920s murder mystery party the night before) if I was "part of something" or if I always dressed like that. I replied I always dressed like that. Then she replied that I looked very nice but I had on too much lace. Before she said lace she was...

What are you so dressed up for?

Here's another reason why I dress up - when I learn at 3:30 that I'll have to meet with the Premier I won't look like every other 20-year-old but will actually look like someone he could see as an equal - or so I hope. Here I am in action (heehee) And then after that someone asked me if I...

    Young loungers

:eusa_clap I've also heard people comment that dressing vintage is anti-feminist, because you want to go back to an age where women had less rights, something I don't agree with at all! I find the 20s-40s all about women gaining independence and finding a voice, all while looking good and...

What are you so dressed up for?

Trust me, we look far better than the people in court, at least in my town. I go to court frequently (I'm a reporter) and often times am the best dressed. In my town, people find it acceptable to go to court wearing pajama pants, socks and sandals. I find it rather disrespectful.

    Best beauty decision you've made?

This isn't really a decision but I really love my eyebrows. I never have to shape them - I only need to tackle an odd rebel hair maybe once a month. My other best beauty decision is letting go of what I think others will think of me and just doing what feels best for me - because at the end...

    Show us your hair do's....

Sunday shopping updo I had far from a perfect set this morning when I woke up, so instead of washing my hair and straightening it, I decided to put the blah front parts up, since the back turned out fairly awesome. So first I put the top part into two flat reverse rolls on the side (a la...

    Setting Lotion

Do any of my fellow Canadian ladies have advice on where to find setting lotion up here? I've checked the local Superstore and Shoppers with no luck!

What is your Curl Set Routine for Fine/Thin Hair

I never thought of using napkins! I've been using Wal-Mart flyers :o but we have an over-abundance of MacDonalds napkins lying around (my boyfriend is not a waster!) so I'm going to use those. I have super thick and fine hair, which is generally a problem for holding styles, but I've found...

What art is in your home?

I got this printed for my boyfriend for his Christmas present. He took this photo about a year ago and it recently won a oil-themed photo contest at the Art Gallery of Alberta. The other one we have up is this photo I took. We got it blown up at Staples. It describes us pretty...

    Best beauty decision you've made?

I think that's the secret to happiness. A lot of people think it's vain and shallow to be so concerned with looks, but it's all about feeling happy and good about yourself. Some people feel best in sweats and a ponytail. Others like to doll up. It's all about doing what's best for you...

    Time Warp Towns

Camrose is pretty time-warpy. There are lots of heritage homes (like mine!) and historic buildings that have been restored. Right now the huge project on the go is the Bailey Theatre, which is being restored to what it used to look like in the 1940s (I think.) The theatre is over 100 years old...

I think your rolls are fantastic Drappa! I personally prefer the asymmetrical look. Also, this probably sounds weird, but you have very pretty lips!

What do you do for Living?

I'm the reporter/photographer/page designer/web editor/social media coordinator - AKA multi-media journalist - for the Camrose Canadian, a small weekly in Central Alberta, Canada. I'm half of the team here, my editor and I put the paper together every week and we do 99% of the stories and...

Miss Tuppence You look like my grandmother in her 20s, right after she got married to my grandfather! Your eyebrows are gorgeous as well. Here's my first successful wet set with sponge rollers, left in overnight: I post way too much in this thread, but I'm proud I can finally do my hair...

    Golden Era Aircraft

I'm a reporter/photographer and this summer I got to experience the media day at the local air show. I love flying and aspire to get my license some day, so couple that with my love of vintage and I was the happiest girl in the world! Plus, it was also a week before my birthday AND I got paid to...

    Mascara on upper lashes only?

I do top and bottom. My trick is to apply a coat on the top until the brush almost needs to be dipped again, but then using the last bit of mascara that remains on the brush on the bottom lashes so it doesn't look too heavy (does that make sense?) I have to put brightener powder on my under...

    Hair Growth

I don't know if it will help with growth, but I take an Omega 3-6-9 pill every morning. It makes my hair shinier and stronger, plus it makes the skin glow too. Plus in pill form it doesn't taste as fishy as the oil.

Here's what I attempted today (sorry for the GIANT poor quality photo). I did one roll on each side, then one big on in the front:
