ELC 1942 Irvin arrived!
Finally its here! Coincidently the postmans knock on the door came as I was dialing Eastman to obtain the tracking number  . Absolutely incredible jacket, the vintage finish is really well done, very subtle. Fits like a dream. I think my jacket cravings are...
Does anyone know what the differences are between the Eastman "time worn", "50. cal" and "Pearl Harbour" A-2s are? Are there actual differences or is it just the same ageing process with different names?
Interesting boots. If they dont sell, it might be worth a shot to play around with them a bit, maybe use some boot polish and dye them entirely black, they would look fairly close to 36'ers after that.
Eastman is generally regarded as the best repro. The pattern is very close (esp the arm shape, which seems to be a problem with most other repros). The collar is accurate and the jacket contains the little details present on originals, such as the elastic collar strap. The zippers, while they do...
freezing temperatures and 6 inches of snow on the ground. Currently wearing a B-10 and 1936 patt flying boots, soon be switching over to my new elc irvin once it arrives.
Hey Spitfire, I've been going through alot of old posts and threads and I've noticed you've got a bit of a thing for the 1939 pattern leather/canvas flying boots. Since the pattern is identical to the 36'ers, why don't you call up Aero and see if they could custom make a pair for you? Aero has a...
You can get them new from www.aeroleatherclothing.com. They are reproductions of RAF 1936 pattern flying boots. Cowhide shell with sheepskin lining and a leather sole. Price is 190.00 GBP but they are really worth it, extremely comfortable and damn good looking as well.
Heres the measurements for my 44 Buzz Roughwear B-10, might give you a starting point at least.
Size 44
Shoulder to shoulder: 19.5 inches
Armpit to armpit: 24 inches
Back length: 25 inches
Arm length: 25 inches
Playing around with the screen capture function on my dvd-rom, a couple captures of Monty and his Irvin from A Bridge Too Far, apologies for the size, I couldnt find a way to zoom in.
Ebay. Found them under a search for either officers gloves, or british army gloves. I just did a search and the guy I bought them from doesnt have any up right now, but he lists them fairly regularly, just got to keep your eyes open.
I usually wear a pair of these with my jackets. Current issue British officers gloves (or at least they were advertised as such). Pretty similar to those worn by the Brits in ww2.
They are nice jackets. I've had three of them myself, all well constructed and warm. The zippers have some quality issues, I dont know if Jerry has sorted them yet. The collar is slightly the wrong shape as well. Heres some photos.
This one was probobly the nicest I had of the three...
Well heres the rundown on the customs charges. The boots cost me roughly 380 CND, once shipping was factored in it was around 440. The duty (all in CND) was 76.22, the GST (general service tax) was 22.87, and the PST (provincial service tax) was 36.59. Add in an 8.00 handling fee and altogtehr I...
Im definately going through Eastman themelves. If I went through HPA I would end up paying around 1600-1700 dollars, depending on how the exchange rate is that day. With Eastman I'll pay around 880-900 for a 42 pattern.
