Dinerman, a friend of mine has a 1960/70s green RCAF flight suit thats covered in those oval Lightning zips, except the lightning logo is curved and looks like the logo on the WW2 zips.
New Goodwear!
A few weeks ago John sold off a few of his jackets on VLJ and I was lucky enough to pick up a seal brown Horsehide no-name 42-18246-P. Lucky for me John and I share roughly the same dimensions so the jacket fit perfectly. This is my first HH jacket and I'm really looking forward...
Im looking forward to getting alot of fall/winter wear out of my two major purchases this year, an original Irvin and my new Goodwear no-name 42-18246-P A-2.
Obviously not suitable for summer wear, but on those colder fall days I think an Irvin with 36 pattern flying boots worn with jeans would look killer on a vintage bike.
Yes, its a shame a way couldnt be found to display her intact, but if you read up on her recent history this is probobly the best outcome that was possible. The owner was just about to scrap her entirely before this new idea was proposed. The U-Boat is now in its new home, has been weather...
Sounds like one of the 1988 contracted Saddlery jackets to me. Russet goatskin, with velcro patches and Ideal zip. Nice starter A-2 if your just getting into it.
I store most of my jackets laid out on a flat surface, but it really depends on what type of jacket and how old it is. I have no qualms about hanging my near mint 1969 Star G-1 as the leather is basically like the day it was sewn together, however I would never think about hanging my original...
Thats the main difference between "fashion" and "style". Those crappy thin leather wannabe biker jackets will be obsolete when fashion chooses another look, but the "tobacco brown bombardier jackets" will continue to endure for years. The A-2 has survived the last 60 years, I'm sure it can do...
I'm not sure how well it could do with rain, but the B-10 is a pretty stylish non-leather jacket. It's basically a cloth A-2 with a mouton collar, it looks pretty sharp in my eyes and I doubt you'd get Indiana Jones comments wearing it.
I recently picked up a really nice original US Navy M-445A shearling flying jacket off of a VLJ member, and I really dont know much about that particular type. Can anyone give me a little history lesson on this jacket model?
looks genuine enough to me. Without a closer shot of the info on the white label I cant tell you when it was made, but I wouldnt worry. I dont think theres a market out there for "counterfeit coopers".
Depends how old it is. One thing the older Coopers and issued Saddlery jackets had going for them was they still had single piece backs and two piece arms. But the newer jackets skimp out with multipiece arms and multiple back panels. (not to mention handwarmer pockets, pen pockets, etc. ugh.)...
I have one of the Saddlery jackets, which design wise are identical to the Coopers. I know of the collar issues you speak of and I agree wholeheartedly. Take the plunge and show us the results! While your at it, why dont you by a wrecked cooper and use the leather to make new pocket flaps as...
I saw a pair of Avirex 36'ers in the flesh last weekend. The owner had re-soled them with leather soles and they were extremely convincing. I suggest that if anyone come across the Avirex boots that they pick them up.
Heres the jacket after a light coat of pecards. I'm not sure if the photo catches it, but its really restored some of the colour on the more worn spots. also interesting, is when cleaning up the hide and feeding it, the original colour of the seam tapes seemed to come out, which is almost an...
definately worth the wait! I gave her a light coat of pecards tonight, and its really helped restore some of the colour on the more worn spots, and looks really top-notch. Bring on the winter!!!
Mid-war Irvin (just arrived!!)
Heres the Irvin I won off ebay roughly a month ago. It arrived about 3 days ago and havent had time until now to properly photograph it. It came in the Eastman box that it was sent back to the last owner in after a zip repair, as well as a carboard eastman label...
