Copy a pattern or use an original?

Unprinted Patterns What is the best way to trace an unprinted pattern? I have no problem following the lines on printed ones but I find it harder to copy unprinted ones. Lady Day I was trying to copy that pattern I promised you a long time ago but I've found my lines aren't too straight. Any...

I feel your pain. The same thing has happened to me more than I care to think about. Your dress came out beautifully. DO you have any extra fabric? Maybe you could recut one of the pieces. Taking it apart is a pain but it will be worth it when you get to wear it.

I also find a dressform helpful because I have many many vintage patterns that aren't my size. I even have contemporary patterns that aren't quite the right size. You will see as you go along that sometimes when you resize a piece (particulary the bodice, I've noticed) it looks ok in the flat...

No you don't have to have a mannequin but I find it a lot easier to hem and alter with one. Unless someone can help you, it's kind of a pain to alter clothes while wearing them. Check Freecycle, I"ve seen some up there from time to time.

Vintage Red I find most of my patterns on Ebay. Generally the sizes are mixed so I have gazillions of all size patterns. Hence the experimenting. We can definitely meet to have vintage sewing day, just keep in mind that I'm by no means an expert at this. It's mostly trial and error and...

To Vintage Red Hi Danielle, I'm in the same 16/18 boat as you and live in NYC as well. I've given up looking for vintage clothing in my size so now I make my vintage inspired. I've found it's not too hard to add a little extra to a pattern that is close to your size. It involves some math...

I believe it's Decades of style that have a pattern with the same sleeves. I should know because I made the top with those sleeves but I'm tired. I think it's called the butterfly blouse.

Amy Jeanne, Love that top. I still can't get over how prolific you are. I'm jealous! It sounds like you need to do a full bust adjustment. I have the same problems with fit. This page will give you an idea how to do one: http://www.timmelfabrics.com/fullbustalteration.htm

Beginner sewing Hi Marzipan, I started out with a Kenmore from Sears and it was fine to start with. It had decorative stitches which I never used but never had any problems with it. I've since upgraded to a Viking with embroidery options but I sew ALOT. That's a far pricier machine but...

Fabric sources Miss Amelina: For fun prints I usually go to my local quilting store. For work wear and more fancy fabrics, I really like gorgeousfabrics.com. They are super nice and the fabrics really are gorgeous. I am very spoiled though because I can dash off to the NYC garment district...

Fuzzy Lizzy Fuzzy Lizzy that swimsuit set is adorable! Pardon my ignorance, but can you actually wear that in the water? I have some cute patterns but I was never sure if they were meant for actual swimming or if they were designed to be worn while lounging in a chair looking cute.

Lady Day Hi Lady Day, I'm the happy winner of this pattern. I'd be happy to make you a copy after Nov. 1, as I'm pretty tied up with a sewing contest on pattern review. I totally thought of you when I bid on this one!

I've ordered recently. Their customer service wasn't bad. I will agree that the quality is so-so. I've only orderd the PG clothing itself, not the other brands they sell. It's not that they're poorly made but there's a lot of lyrca involved. Though it's not a surprise considering the prices...
