Ha ha I totally do. Sometimes when I'm on the subway and I see a girl wearing an expensive brand plaid or striped jacket, I always check to see if the pattern matches up! Or if I'm in an expensive department store, sometimes I look at the inside construction. "What they want X dollars for...
Shirin that dress is lovely!
Then there's the problem of the double-edged sword. My friend has a fairly well known repro company and just had a fashion show recently. Someone didn't believe that her clothes are made in the USA (which they are) because they're so "cheap". He kept...

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for but it does have rockets and it is a border print.
copying a garment
I have copied a halter top before successfully. Your item will be more complicated but it is possible. There are several ways to do it, there's a few books on the subject that I can't access right now. One of the options is to use a pointy tracing wheel and trace the...
Lorena B- Mens patterns
Lorena B,
I'm pretty sure I have some men's pants patterns. Back in my freewheeling credit card spending days, I bought quite a few lots of patterns on Ebay. Unfortunately I don't really have much use for men's clothes as I'm quite sure I'll never get my sweetie into...
lining fabric
I didn't think about the static cling factor. However, I made a dress in cotton and lined with cotton batiste and didn't notice a cling problem at all. Maybe it was so minimal as to be unnoticeable. I'll have to pay closer attention next time.
Check out Make Workshop in Manhattan and 3rd Ward in Brooklyn. I believe they both offer sewing classes. I think Etsy labs in Brooklyn has times where you can rent a machine. I concur with what others have said, sewing doesn't have to take up a lot of space. Unless you're a fabric/pattern...
I have made this dress. As my measurements are larger than the printed size, it fit me perfectly. I do believe there's more ease then usual maybe because there is no zipper.
Maternity Patterns
Vintage Vixie,
What size are you? I'm in the process of weeding out the patterns that I don't want and I know I saw at least 5 maternity patterns. I really don't plan on having children so I know they'll be of no use to me. I was going to Ebay them in a large lot at...
Maybe you should try on Etsy. You can go to custom and request someone to make you something with your pattern. I love Lutterloh. I have a couple of those books myself.
Epr, is there a waist band? The other ladies might have better ideas but this is what I would do:
1. take off waistband
2. let out seams (if there's room and depending on fragility of skirt and whether or not there is a color difference between the skirt and the now exposed seams)
3. make...
Lutterloh
Deadpandiva: I have a couple Lutterloh books. If you're missing a pattern that you really like, I may have it in one of mine and I can scan it for you.
special needles?
Hi Ms. Merl,
I have leather needles. Do I need something else? I've used leather needles for making purses but should I be using something else? As you can see, this is my first pair of gloves so I really appreciate any tips.
Thanks for the lining tips ladies. I realized that I bought some flannel backed satin for a winter coat lining awhile ago and I think it'll be perfect.
I second Marie Ann's advice regarding the velvet. I had to steam a lot of velvet at my last job and it got out 95% of the wrinkles.
