Does anyone know a source for swiss mountain boots? I know that they're often used by reenactors for a gebirgsjager impression.....

    What are you wearing today??

Today's ensemble consists of a crisply pressed starched white shirt, a casually knotted knit royal army WWII vintage necktie, a knit vest (button uo),a pair of tan trousers, brown and white wingtips, and argyle socks. It's casual for me, but terribly dressy for my co-workers!

From uniform to civilian wear... practical?

Exactly my thinking! I find that many trousers today, especially jeans, are not even cut to be worn at the proper waist any longer!

From uniform to civilian wear... practical?

This thread leads into a question I've been mulling over for a bit. I would like to get a few pairs of tropical drill pants (from WPG) but I'm unsure about where the waist would lie. Modern measurements put the waist darn near the hips... where did it lie back then?

It looks like my homecoming to the US next week wont be a happy one...

You have my condolences, sir! I dealt with a somewhat similar issue last year when my grandmother passed away in California. It came as quite a shock, as no one had communicated to me that she had any sort of health issues before that... Not quite the same thing, but certainly a shared feeling...

how did people back in the old days stay so thin and lean?

My great grandmother cooked with lard... every meal, every day of her life. She lived to ripe old age of 103. It is odd that people point out to so many of the things my forebearers did as unhealthy when they all lived long, active lives. Certainly those who came before us were alot more...

I had heard about the rate of fire... and a bit about the maintenance issue. Where is the maintenance concern? Is it the bolt? I'm trying to decide whether to pick up the Mannlicher this weekend...

I'm thinking of picking up a Steyr-Mannlicher M1895 this weekend. My weapons apparently need to be vintage ;) Does anybody have any opinions on that particular weapon?

    The Spanish Civil War

Your English is perfectly fine, much better than my Spanish (much to my grandmother's enduring shame)! I really must thank you for all that you've shared, because I think it provides a very timely reminder for all of us. It is very easy (espeically here, in the United States) for many of us to...

    Best Cities For Vintage Life?

The initial impetus for moving was to be closer to my family. They're getting older and my better instinct was to be close by so that I could be there to start helping out. However.... the economy as it is... especially in California.... that seems a moot point now, at best. Still, a gentleman...
