Retro...Did you happen to see the 257 open crown fedora, or the 351 teardrop at Miller Hats. Unless I'm mistaken these styles are still made by Biltmore for Miller, and are very nice hats. I have several.
I just got a "Sydney" from David Morgan. It's a really fine hat too for $116(very soft and lightweight) and I love the red silk liner. I ordered on Monday and it was sitting on my porch Wednesday;)
I agree with the big guy. I have two 351 Miller teardrops and two Miller Baldwins. These styles come in the President Ultra Finish Fur that I like very much. They have held up very well in foul weather. The Queens that you are thinking of is made with the Smooth Fur Felt I believe, and is of the...
I was wondering how big the Charles Store chain was. I didn't find anything on a quick Google search. I guess the store here opened in the late 50's and was here I believe until the early 70's or so.
I don't remember Spag's but here in NC the first discount store I remember was the Charles Store. This was pre K-Mart or Wal-Mart, and it gave Sears a real run for the money. In case anyone is from the Raleigh area, the Charles Store was out on S. Wilmington St. across from Montlawn Cemetery...
Boy do I wish I had my '65 Caravelle back:eusa_doh: I'm thinking of buying another in a modern Airstream....something short...something with a lot of headroom...I'm 6'7":)
I don't know what the Miller milan straw is or where it came from, but I like it very much. I have the 179 Danville in natural straw, and it's one of my favorites. It was stiff at first, but it soon surrendered to the shape of my head. I'm sure some might consider it to be a little on the sturdy...
Not at all....I have some hair loss, but I shave the rest off anyway. I wear hats because I love them hair or no hair. I also wear them to protect my face, neck and head from all the elements;)
Hey Y'all.....I'm Al, and I've peeped in from time to time in the last year or so. I'm a retired Fireman, and spend most of my time out in the yard. I have a great interest in providing housing for migratory birds...mainly swallows(Purple Martins, Chimney Swifts, and Barnies) anyway, although...
I have bought 2 new Akubra's in the last year. The Bushman and the Squatter. Both hats(7 1/4) have run consistantly slightly large somewhere between my true size of 7 1/4 and 7 3/8. A little felt under the band did the job. My other new hats are Miller (or Biltmore) and they run dead on 7 1/4
My daddy always told me to "have a light and easy touch" I always treat my hats the same by the pinch. I wish my "Bushman" would hold a pinch on one side. Maybe I should get heavy handed with that one:)
