I haven't seen a V-Twin 49cc Honda, but I believe you might be referring to the 49cc OHC Honda GX50 engine which is used in generators. A lot of those as well as the Chinese clone of it (HuaSheng F142) are showing up on motorized bikes now. Here's one on my Sun Retro Cruiser, coupled with an...
A Friend of mine bought that bike from me a couple weeks ago, before I had a chance to do any work on it. But I now have another project for the upcoming winter months. I'll be converting this $10 auction find prewar (I believe) Shelby Traveler into a motorized bike (a la Whizzer).
It never fails. This is the third time in as many years that I've gone to the Trexlertown bicycle show and swap meet looking for parts and have returned with yet another bike. This year it is a 1940s Huffman "Zephyr" woman's bike in mostly original paint (except for the rims and rack) that I...
I was going to say that the JC Higgins bikes were Murray-built, but you beat me to that in your edit. The bike in the second photo appears to be a Rollfast. The jury is still out on that however, as I'm still looking around. The chainring is actually one used on a lot of Schwinns, the fork...
Apparently one of the Polizia was better at wearing the uniform than driving the Gallardo.
Getting back on topic though, I tend to agree with Soren. The RAF Battle Dress uniform is a definite favourite, and perhaps the tropical is my very favourite.
Actually, there was. Japanese subs shelled US west coast installations on two occasions. One was the shelling of the Ellwood Oil Fields near Santa Barbara by the I-17 on the 23rd of Februaray, 1942. http://www.militarymuseum.org/Ellwood.html
Fort Stevens in Oregon was shelled by submarine...
Later in the war many towns along the coast also practiced "dimouts", in which no light could be allowed to shine in the direction of the coast, but low intensity lamps were permitted to shine downwards (again, with the coastal side of the lamp shielded). Houses only had to have any windows...
Patricia Neal
From Yahoo News:
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Patricia Neal, the willowy, husky-voiced actress who won an Academy Award for 1963's "Hud" and then survived several strokes to continue acting, died on Sunday. She was 84.
Neal had lung cancer and died at her home in Edgartown, Mass., on...
Nice bike! As I've always said, a bike is only ever original once, so I'm glad you're choosing to preserve rather than customize it. The paint appears to have been maroon originally, and has faded or oxidized so it looks to be brown. Am I correct in that observation?
A good polishing...
There doesn't seem to be as many choices anymore when it comes to generator powered sets, but here's one you might want to look at: http://www.bikeworldusa.com/product_info.php/cPath/124_25_51/products_id/387
Here's a favorite of mine:
But for those of us who reenact at Mid Atlantic Air Museum's
WWII Weekend it needs to be paraphrased to say:
"It's gotta to be Reading"
Soren, if you can find a copy you will not be disappointed. I have a copy of the book which is signed by Hugh "Cocky" Dundas. He was a delight chap, and I had the pleasure of meeting him in 1990 at a B of B seminar. If you find a copy and read it you'll quickly find out he was quite the...
Wow, this is all very touching, very moving. Thank you all for your kind words and sentiments. Thank you Fred for turning this into its own thread, as I felt in retrospect that I had unfortunately hijacked the original thread.
It's tough going right now, as there is so much around me that...
