Here's my latest, a June 1941 Springfield Armory M1 Garand. I just got it from the CMP on Tuesday. It has a six-digit serial, and the rear sight cover is very early, from the variant known as a "gas trap" Garand.
I posted in this thread a couple weeks ago about getting a 1942 Remington 513T from the CMP that had a radically shaved comb on the buttstock. The buttstock looked more like a tail fin from a 1957 DeSoto...
513T Range report
I took the 513T to the range today and shot a few targets at 25 yards. The aperture that came with the rear sight is better suited for hunting, but I do have a target aperture on order for this sight. Nevertheless, I was pretty satisifed with the results.
This is a...
Yesterday the Remington 513T .22 milsurp training rifle I ordered from the CMP on 3 October arrived, and it's everything I wanted...except for the stock. I'll get to that in a moment. It's a wartime example, June 1942 (if I'm not mistaken) with a parkerized finish. The bore is excellent and the...
That Martini Henry is .577/450 caliber. I'm thinking of getting a subcaliber conversion kit so I don't have to mortgage the house just to fire it. Even with reloading, the .577/450 isn't cheap.
I attended the International Military Antiques warehouse tour/plunder (as well as the Victorian Rifle Shoot that followed) in Easton, PA on October 22 and came back with this Gahendra (Nepalese Martini-Henry rifle variant) project. Not wishing to start it until a few friends saw it in its...
I was at a gun show last weekend looking for some accessories and spare parts for the M1 Garand and I came home with a little cousin!
Actually it's a commercial M1 Carbine and not USGI, but I couldn't resist the price.
Here's my latest, an H&R M1 Garand. This was a CMP Service Grade H&R, which I just received from CMP about ten days ago. It has an H&R receiver, barrel, stock and rear sight. The bolt, operating rod and trigger group are all Springfield Armory marked. I just took it to the range today and...
Here are two of my latest additions; a Russian Nagant M1895 revolver and a Henry Frontier in .22LR with the octagon barrel. The large lever loop is an optional part I fitted to my rifle because of my meaty hands, and also because I like the looks.
I shoot in CMP matches that are held at the sportsman's club I belong to near Quarryville, PA ( www.slcfsa.com ). We always welcome people who are new and just wish to observe before trying their hand at these events. They really are a lot of fun, and the folks at my club are quick to help out...
Nice bikes! Yes, this can be a dangerous hobby, LOL. I know exactly what you mean. I plan to start on the restoration of my Schwinn Cycletruck soon, plus I just recently bought a Victory Bike (made by Schwinn) project.
Very nice Elgin! Notice how the ad says "deluxe equipped"? Prior to the war that would mean a tank and a rear carry rack in addition to the horn and headlamp seen on the bike. With the war situation, 1942 was the last year of balloon-tire bike manufacture (for civilian use) for the duration...
You are right on the mark about the Sears Spaceliner, which was made by Murray. These are gaining in popularity with collectors as well as Boomers looking for the bikes from their youth. The Fire Arrow is at oldest a 1959 model, but the fenders and rack are not original. The frame style for...
You scared me as well! I'm glad she's alive and well. I saw her perform in May of 1995 at the concert in Hyde Park commemorating the 50th Anniversary of VE Day and her voice was still as vibrant and youthful sounding as it ever was. Happy Birthday, Dame Vera!
As Mary said, we (Kilroy's Homefront Commandos) will be there with some great new scenarios. Shall we give our fellow Loungers a little hint as to what to expect?
Of course, as in the past couple of years, we will gladly host the FL lunch at WWII Weekend on Saturday if the interest is there...
