Martinis, anyone?
Well, it's official. I guess I'm truly addicted to Martinis. This is the third one I've bought in the past month. This one is a Kandahar Arsenal 2nd Model Cavalry Carbine that I just bought from Khyber Arms LLC, which is fellow Lounger MPicciotto's business.
I got my copy on Tuesday, and I've been reading an article per day (I pace myself otherwise I'd be through it in one sitting). I haven't gotten to your article yet (I didn't see this thread until now) but I'll check it out tomorrow!
Those shotgun conversions are likely to retain their original rear sight, or perhaps have had the rear sight removed. Those that were modified for police and/or prison guard use were fitted with the fixed rear sight, as this one has. This was common throughout the Empire, as I have even seen...
When it rains, it pours...
The other day I posted about the Francotte-pattern Martini I bought at a gun show last weekend. I bought that because I had placed an absentee bid on a Martini Mk.II at an auction on Saturday, and since I didn't hear from the auction house on Saturday I figure my bid...
Here's a fun little piece I just added to my collection. I picked up this Carcano M91 at an auction this past Saturday, and got it pretty cheaply due to the fact it had been sporterized. It was one of the Carcanos that had been imported in the 1960s and had the stock chopped down and barrel...

Deacon, I just gave it a try. I had to dunk it a few times to get the result I was looking for, but it did exactly what you said it would. I'm still waiting for it to dry thoroughly, as I don't want any moisture to be trapped between the barrel and the leather.
Not yet, as I need to slug the bore to ensure I choose the right bullet diameter. The Gahendras usually have a slightly tighter bore than the Brit Martinis. I do have ten cases ready for loading once I have the bullet size I need.
Deacon, that's the first I've heard about using boiling water to age leather. What should I expect to see by using that method? Will it dull the shine, wrinkle the leather, or???
A while back I posted some photos of the Nepalese Gahendra Martini project I bought from IMA in October. The photos showed it still covered in 100+ years of grime and dried yak grease (aka "yakolene"). Here it is now all cleaned up. I didn't want to strip the gun and refinish it, I wanted it...
