While I think that Connery looked great as bond, I am not so sure that I actualy liked his suits at all. The colors were great, and he wore (and wears) clothes beautifully, but the actual tailoring always looked a little out of balance to me with the clean but wide chest and narrow lapels...
Yes, it is never seen on OTR suits and very rarely on bespoke. It helps slim the skirt of the suit which can look a little hippy if you have a good waist suppression and then a normal length dart. The underarm seam, on the other hand, stops at the pocket rather than continuing.
I hear what you are saying. One thing that you have to keep in mind is that the shape of an armhole from Savile Row is a bit triangular, or at least "un-round" while tailors in Italy will use a rounder armhole without tape around it creating a more fluid and adaptable scye. Here is a picture...
While there certainly is a tendency for overly large armholes these days, the trend on this site tends to be for overly small ones. Like everything else, the most important thing is balance.
Thanks.
There is nothing stylish about being so worried about how you look, or so conscious about how you feel that you cannot relax and be a normal person. When I see somebody fighting their clothes, I feel bad for them
I wear neither cummerbund nor vest and go with a mohair and wool tuxedo to keep the heat down. There is nothing worse than being too hot, and it is impossible to look stylish if you are uncomfortable.
here is a new white dupioni suit (i have different pants on in the pic.) The fabric is very nice and I think that the armholes might even please the dinizens of this lounge. Whaddya think?
+1.
I also believe that a balance between height of armhole and comfort is necessary. It makes no sense to wear a super high armhole if it has no relation to the body proportion, posture and lifestyle of the modern man.
Fitting a collar correctly is very difficult and you rarely see it done well. If you look at all of the "what are you wearing" threads on the different boards, you rarely see a good collar.
Not really controversial as much as it is just opinion. I know that there are a lot of reasons to wear them that way, but to me they look like they take away from the natural proportions of the body and that is what I think looks good in general.
My problem with very highwaisted pants is that they look terrible when viewed from the front. The person looks like he has no upper body, which is not particularly flattering. I know that there are many other reasons to wear them, and if you never open your jacket it really doesn't matter, but...
IIRC, scarmebb (if in fact the same person) was somebody who posted one of the most legendary lines of smack ever seen on Style Forum. I am not sure if he is a real guy or an alter ego of some other normal poster there, but his smack led to Jovan's discontent on that board end subsequent...
