British? French? Have to start checking the surplus stores. I need a raincoat for riding, that isn't the Western style yellow pommel slicker, or the Aussie waxed coat.

The coat "Mr Dolby" is wearing as he rides up to the clinic.....
OK. I have to ask. IS this a civilian coat, or some sort of British Army surplus? It looks like a cross between a trench, and a duster, with the half belt in back.
Not exactly. An officer's "presence" is the first level of force. That includes how you look to an extent. Think about it, are you more likely to listen to an officer that looks like Barney Fife, or Reed & Malloy from Adam-12? Or Jon, and Ponch, for that matter.
There was a show on the...
Yes, Strawberry Fields was only there to pay homage, to Goldfinger. That, and the character "Nicole," the French girl in Never Say Never Again. If you're a female in a Bond movie, and they don't bother to give you a last name, it's kind of like being given a red shirt, as a Star Trek extra...
There's something to say for tradition. The Marines look good because they've mostly stayed true to their tradition, making very little change to their original uniforms. (At least the dress uniforms, field uniforms will change as form follows function)
Somewhere around here, we have a Verdun shell casing, flower vase.
I used to think it was a one-of-a-kind, but I noticed one in the background in one of the scenes of Admiral Grier's office, in Hunt for Red October.
If I can find it, I'll grab a picture.
21 out of 50. Not too good. It's been a while since I've read any of the books.
Where literary spy's are concerned, I always thought Donald Hamilton's Matt Helm, made Fleming's Bond, look like a Boy Scout. As Blackjack just pointed out, the movies are a much different story.
Here's an...
Ahhh, now that just screams Good Old Days. There are a few things from the past that are really sad that they aren't around anymore. The Orient Express is one.
And the Boeing 314 Clippers. That would really be something. New York to South Hampton.
Last year I wanted to take an Orient...
We got our first taste of winter the last two days, even a sprinkle of snow. Brrrr. A nice Irish Coffee, may be just the thing to ward off the chill. Or coffee, and brandy?
Doran, maybe some Glüwein if you don't want to be up all night?
Well....
In the Air Force, basic is separate from technical training. You finish basic training, and then go to another training unit where you get your "specialty" training. Some of the aircraft maintenance schools are quite long. You could be in school for almost a year before being assigned...
I agree with you. The British do know how to make a uniform. Not even the elaborate parade dress, but they still wear the green, and tan, for what we would call a Class A. It looks good.
As for the medals. Well, it gets kind of complicated. There are medals, and then there are ribbons. Now...
I think the Army already made it's decision. They are going with a variation of the Dress Blues. Actually combining the Service "Greens" and the Dress Blues.

Speaking of the USAF. They've gone through some uniform changes. They are going to a new digital BDU, with a...
