Charming hat, Lady Day. I look forward to pictures of it with your dress. My few authentic cloches are so small - vintage ladies must have had tiny heads to go with their tiny feet.
Fortunately, I have a cloche-like hat from my grandmother's things, that is designed to sit further on the back...
Well, at least a man's WWII life. I've got a cigar box nestled in a shoe box, bought for a couple of dollars at a flea market. Inside are letters, birthday cards and Christmas cards, patches, pins, licenses, leave passes, service lighters, pens, pencils, photos, dog tags, an id bracelet, all...
Keep it in mind. It'll be a nice, jazzy, romantic getaway, and it sounds like you two will be ready for one of those as soon as you can make it happen. ;)
On our way to the release reception for "Blood and Thunder", the OU School of Medicine's literary journal. I call Tony's jacket his western Prince Charlie, because it has some V accenting. He didn't wear it out though, but changed into a Harris Tweed jacket instead.
I agree, kamikat. It's not a matter of long hair symbolizing youth and short hair symbolizing middle aged-hood as much as a woman knowing what suits her face and her style.
Being true to yourself (regardless of what the perceived norm for you age) is the most empowering thing.
Dandelion Vintage is a place worth checking from time to time. She usually updates weekly, on a Sunday or Monday, and has a wide range of prices. You can find basic blouses, skirts, etc. for a nice price, though price will reflect condition of course.

Have shoe horns disappeared? I spied some vintage ones over the weekend, and realized I hadn't seen them (the standard metal ones, sometimes printed with a shop's info) since my childhood.
I remember Linda Blair used (or tried to use) that ploy in "Sarah T. Portrait of A Teenage Alcoholic."
It would be nicely convenient for those times we fancy a little something and just don't want the hassle of going shopping. However, I doubt it would ever fly in OKC; you can't even buy...
That's funny. No offense to any educator in the Lounge, but my daughter calls that look "teacher clothes"; big bright seasonally decorated sweatshirts, often accessorized with matching pins, earrings, sneakers. You can see a great concentration of them at craft shows.
As for...
Perhaps I should find my own fancy miniature tongs and such to bring along. ;) Often a serving utensil is provided to move to food onto one's own dish, but the chore of then getting it unmessily to the mouth remains.
I've amassed a small collection of assorted gloves over the years (once at the antique market, a vendor was closing shop and selling every pair for $1!). The trouble is, most events I'd be tempted to wear them to tend to be art receptions, that usually involve finger food. I can't imagine...
I go for the intimate, dim lighting. Either a crispy, fruity cider, or intriguing cocktails to drink, and old jazz, swing, classic type music that I can hear, but do not have to shout over.
The Mr. and I do not do clubs or bars, as a rule; drinks are too pricey, crowds to rowdy, and the...
