    Aging

Yes, and bravo to her. Notice she's not slumming around in a fleecy psuedo track suit. (at least not in front of the cameras...)

    Vintage Weddings

That's funny, C-dot. My mom (or actually, my great aunt did all the professional cleaning and boxing of it) saved her dress for me, in case I should want to wear it. Seeing as I was not at all into the over-the-top bridezilla mode, and just wanted to do the thing, it was fine with me to have a...

Show us your Thrift and/or yard sale finds

Last week, a friend had an estate sale. She's been selling stuff in an antique shop, but hasn't time for it, so attempted to get rid of her inventory & clear out her garage. I didn't make it to the sale, so this evening she allowed us to come have a peek at the leftovers. I chose some things...

Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

You should buy a packet of corn pads, scruff them all up then put them in his bed. When he discovers them, tell him they came out of all your pre-worn, smelly, old lady shoes. (My big brother always got the best of me, but I'd totally do something like that to him now, if he deserved it. ;))

    View-Master

I had the late 60s, early 70s squarish version. Though we must have had quite a few reels to look at, what i remember is one of Atom Ant. Now, I have an older, black Viewmaster from amongst my grandmother's things.

FACEBOOK: the end of the world as we knew it...

You've got it right, Mike in S. - manners are manners, and decency is decency, no matter what form of communication is used. How hard is it to treat others with a bit of consideration and respect? Pretty impossible for some.

FACEBOOK: the end of the world as we knew it...

Really? That's sad and disappointing, to say the least. Do you suppose it's a carry on of the ebonics trend?

FACEBOOK: the end of the world as we knew it...

^ Guilty of the same here. If I do not have the telephone # or address of someone, email or facebook are the most convenient ways to reach them. Whether sending a formal message or just a snippet of snark, though, I can't bear lack of proper punctuation. That's not to say I don't commit my...

Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

Tonight I modeled for the watercolor society's 'Toulouse Lautrec' evening. The only truly vintage thing I wore was the hat, but the look certainly suggested another age. One of the painters - a man who must have been near 80, and reminded me very much of Vincent Price - said to me: "you remind...

    Best FL-er costumes 2009

A beautiful moment of panic. Marc, your expression is very similar to the one worn by Scott Fitzgerald in his latter photos; during that time his life had completely fallen apart and he must have realized all his attempts to repair it would end in futility. (I hope yours is just a very good...

FACEBOOK: the end of the world as we knew it...

The Mr. and I enjoy sitting side by side, sharing a bottle of wine, winding up each other and our pals on fb. But of course, I also take great pleasure in using real stamps to send real letters written by real hand.

    Cheesy Sci-Fi Film Appreciation

This thread is awakening old, fond remembrances, but I'm not sure my contributions would count as proper sci-fi; perhaps more horror? A Bucket of Blood http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfB6X0SHZPY Dr. Phibes (Vincent Price, swoon) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxnr9xycVLo&feature=related

Fountain Pens: Who uses them, and why?

Walgreens, you say? Good for them. Too bad you can't just get the fountain, without all the other bits included. A few weeks ago I got a Scribe extra fine nib pen from Hobby Lobby; the second one shown. http://www.scribblers.co.uk/acatalog/Manuscript_Scribe_Series.html

Fountain Pens: Who uses them, and why?

Wow. Who'd have thought that the cursive chart we used to see posted above the blackboard would even become obsolete? All is not lost quite yet, though; my 17 year old daughter learned cursive in school, and uses it on a regular basis.

Fountain Pens: Who uses them, and why?

Love the fountains. I used to have several of the basic, office supply type in the 80s, when they were more easily acquired. I don't have any fancy, high-priced models now; maybe one day. But my poor girl's versions are working fine and keeping me happy. The Mr. was going through gel...

    Scenting the house, questions

The house never smells so good as when I'm making my special recipe porridge, with cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, cardamom, ginger, blueberries, cherries, vanilla & almond extracts.

    Scenting the house, questions

Essential oils in a candle diffuser work well in my massage room; the rest of the house is too open and drafty for the scent to have any noticeable effect. I do use a few quality incenses now and then, but most often burn them in the enclosed front porch. Just enough smoke seeps into the...
