    ENIGMA

A lot of credit should go to those brave men. Cheers, Jim. One of them - Tom Williams - has a street named after him in his home town, also my original home town, in Tamworth, Staffordshire. But I wonder how many know the significance? (The Apple computer logo is also a tribute to Alan...

IRVIN NUTS?...the ULTIMATE thread for those who love 'em!

Not as such, 633 Squadron was based on Frederick E. Smith's best selling novel. I think Mosquito Squadron was purely a cinematic effort, shamelessly hanging on the shirt tails of the earlier movie. At least 633 Squadron has a memorable soundtrack!

IRVIN NUTS?...the ULTIMATE thread for those who love 'em!

Good digression though Andrew.............. It's a shock to see the tallies of the experten, so few people accounting for so many allied aircraft. I expect it was much the same vice-versa though? I wonder how prized an Irvin was as war booty, it must have been near impossible to wear while...

    New Aero A-2 pics

Anyway, here are some pics I just took, please forgive the follicly challenged rear view, I just turned 43 last month. :( Still younger than the jacket though!! :)

Eastman Monarch A-2 I dont get it!

Don't Eastman and Goodwear both use the correct 3oz weight leather, whatever that means! I read about it somewhere, but it didn't stick unfortunately. But 3oz is apparently correct according to wartime spec. BTW Steve, I unearthed my "Golden Book" and it does state in the text that horse, goat...

LUFTWAFFE jackets - Eagles who Dare to Wear..!

Eastman I know someone who had their ELC jacket made 1" longer in the body, Eastman's were happy to oblige but did state beforehand that this work made it a non-returnable item. Seems fair enough to me.

IRVIN NUTS?...the ULTIMATE thread for those who love 'em!

That's not the first picture I've seen of German aircrew wearing Irvins! Great publicity shot though. I wonder why they would stop issuing Irvins to fighter squadrons Tim? I know flying times were shorter and cockpits more cramped but those guys must still have got cold! The RAF was a bit of an...

IRVIN NUTS?...the ULTIMATE thread for those who love 'em!

I always thought they would remain RAF property, but I wonder when they were no longer issued. Did guys in Shackletons and Lincolns wear them I wonder, I don't think I've ever seen a post war picture of an Irvin being worn by service personnel. In Kaplin's superb 'Little Friends' there's a photo...

IRVIN NUTS?...the ULTIMATE thread for those who love 'em!

pics Just a couple of pics here, any excuse to post an Irvin! But does anyone know what jacket the airman with the cuppa is wearing? Or is it a one piece Sidcot? Hard to make out, for me anyway. How's that Irvin looking now Tim? Tour expired? What did happen to jackets of tour expired...

    NEW ELC .50CAL A2

Good show Edward. Just to make sure I was clear though, the A2 I posted is an ELC 44". (I've also tried an Aero in a 44" but sadly it was way too small.)

    NEW ELC .50CAL A2

suit size I had to go and have a look! ( I wear a suit about 3 times a year) It's a 42" regular (off the peg jobby, shameless) My Aero Highwayman is a standard 42 and that fits very well too. Hope this helps a bit??!?!?!

IRVIN NUTS?...the ULTIMATE thread for those who love 'em!

Wildbluesea, here's a shot of an original which shows a bit of the leather. It's supple and conforming, with a touch of stiffness although it can't stand up on its own. As it's somewhat old I wouldn't like to test how tough it really is, but I reckon it'll comfortably outlast me. Shearlings do...

    NEW ELC .50CAL A2

Eastman Pearl Harbour 44" A little later than advertised, here are the dimensions of the ELC Pearl Harbour. Hope they might help someone decide what's right for them. Sorry, I should have said, I'm 6', 42" chest and about 205lbs - I consider this jacket a very good fit.

    NEW ELC .50CAL A2

Interesting, I had no idea! I recalled Eastman referring to wartime jackets being made of steer, in the Golden Book I think, but I'd can't be definite about that. I'm surprised it's so difficult to establish, there must be a lot of people still alive who were actively involved with jacket...

    NEW ELC .50CAL A2

Edward, if you haven't seen it before, there's a lot of good info here regarding the A2. http://www.acmedepot.com/a2jacket/index.shtml I'm no expert, but they were also made from steer. ELC are much less blousey than some years ago, now much closer to the often debated 'military...

A slightly different version of WWII

Gone already I guess that was Eddie Izzard then? Great routine if it's the one I'm thinking of.

How much thicker/heavier are the hides on Lost World jackets than other companies?

I noticed the "lead-lined" sticker on the fridge - what was that about? Were they lead-lined? If so, why? I didn't care for this! A lot of people laughed but I was gritting my teeth..............

    Nazi and Soviet Medallions

Couldn't agree more, but it seems inevitable. You don't get many ceremonies for the English Civil War, but that struggle completely altered the course of our history. Rough estimates for loss of population - England 3.7%, Scotland 6%, Ireland 41%. To my shame, I couldn't even give you the...
