I wonder if such a celebrated Irvin has survived and is displayed in a museum somewhere? Or maybe somebody now owns it and is oblivious of it's pedigree?
Sorry Ruf, are you after an original or a repro? A size 6 label states it's intended for 40/42" but it would easily fit a 44", even a 46" if worn without much under it. My size 5 fits me best, I'm a 42" chest but the label indicates that this is intended for a 38-40".
If there's any logic to...
Sorry to be a pedant, in fact I said MAYBE you would pay more - there is no
like-for-like comparison available at any given time, so how could one ever say for sure. Personally I've always felt that collecting these items and exhibiting them - either physically or photographically - is a most...
I see no definite reason to avoid ebay. I've bought 2 Irvin's from there, maybe I paid more than I might have, but certainly not more than I could sensibly afford. A lot of jackets appear there which are being sold by very reputable people - to avoid it altogether is curious advice in my...
I don't know how this will sit, but I reckon around the £500 mark should buy you a good wearable Irvin with no obvious faults. If it is collectable, in that
it has provenance, that increases the value considerably. Larger sizes seem more rare so I imagine these will be slightly more costly too...
Skids, this may well be a red herring, but I was told that the sleeves on Irvins are usually a bit long so as to maintain coverage when the crew were in the aircraft and extending their arms to hold the control column, gun triggers etc.
Be pleased for anyone to hole that one below the waterline...
First time I've seen a size 7, it's in wonderful shape - bags of character, and still with it's collar strap, label and hanging chain. A great Irvin! How's the fit? Here's the label from my size 6 - looks like they might have something in common?
Hi Skids,
I have an Irvin which was repaired by Aero, the work has been done very carefully and is completely in keeping with the jacket. One of the sleeve pullers was also missing and I was also able to buy a small NOS Lightning zip from Sefton (via ebay) and I used the puller off that - they...
Beautiful Kinabalu, I especially like the AFV's - am I right in assuming they're
1/35th? Spit makes a good point though, I've made you hijack the thread - sorry. Maybe we need to look somewhere else to post this stuff - any suggestions from the Mods please? Many thanks:)
I bought this B3 from MickeyB-17 recently, it's made by Aero. Unlike John I have nothing to compare it against, but it is superbly made and I really admire its quality. This was the only way I could think of to indicate how dense the wool is, the coin is a UK one pence piece, which is 2cm in...
ELC Pearl Harbour
Hi Kinabalu, some time ago I posted pics of my ELC pearl Harbour, they're
here if you scroll down the page a little.

For the serious collectors a jacket like this probably doesn't sit right, but a few months down the...
Robbed by Robbery
'Robbery' with Stanley Baker. I've waited years for this to come out on DVD, so I was really looking forward to seeing it again. But, and for me this is a very large but - it's a 4:3 pan and scan number, so I was mightily ticked off.
It's still a good movie with memorable...
