Couldn't find that one out Spit, but I have the same understanding of 'ace' -
any pilot with 5 kills or more. This might be spurious but I believe the majority of BoB pilots would have had zero or less than 5 kills, just their presence in the right place at the right time provided a sufficient...
Ethan.. My apologies, I'm gonna hang onto the Ian Kennedy art, as his stuff is incredibly hard to find. It's a very small piece, 26 X 20 cm.
That's OK Ruf, I didn't think you would want to part with it, I know I wouldn't!:)
Rufus, that coned Lanc is awesome - what size has this been done at? Fancy selling it?:D
The bike is great too, love that low angle. These boys were good!
Lost forever
Sadly, a number of them I 'loaned' out two-years-ago and they seem to have disappeared which is rather annoying [huh]
That's a shame, puts you off lending things altogether. Don't know if this link has been posted before Paddy but it might bring back some memories for you...
Superb Paddy, thanks. I'd love a collection of the original art, framed and hanging on my wall. Problem is, I think Ruf has most of it! I think the Lonewolf Pilot is particularly good, the head is superb and popped in with the minimum of tone. Got anymore, they're so good to...
Grey ghost, it's Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kilgore. Another of his which I thought memorable, but not necessarily for the right reasons -
"Charlie don't surf!"
That's a correct guess Spitfire! Shaw's character is an amalgam but he did base it primarily on Sailor Malan. Now then, how can I catch you and Smithy out..............:D
That part from the film is based on an incident that occurred with 303 when Ronald Kellett was CO. Sorry all my books and whathaveyou are in shipment at the mo so can't give the date, but if memory serves it was late August
Tim
Well done again Tim, I have the date of this incident being the...
Aaargghhh - he's back and he's bad...............
Quick, leg it Spitfire!
Nice to see you again Smithy :)
I cannot answer your question though, it'd be a complete guess. Desmond Scott?
Can anyone put a name to this though? - in the film 'Battle of Britain' there's a scene featuring a Polish...
B3
If you get a chance to watch the Eastman DVD, there is an excellent and detailed sequence of one of their machinists constructing a B3. The skill involved is a thing of beauty. And the jacket's not bad either.....:)
Quiz
You're being gentle with me now Spit! That was Fl/Lt P.H. Barran who was sadly lost on this day.
I read Tom Neil's 'Gunbutton to Fire' years ago, but have no recollection of the North Weald incident, the old grey matter is seizing up...... I'll try and pose one for you next...
Rumblefish, thanks very much for posting these, it's fascinating. Glad that the allies managed to get that 'lodgement' sorted - I've never heard it called that before!
B3
I'll be taking the zip out this weekend and buying a period Talon to sew in. I would very much appreciate close-up shots from other people's original B-3s to see exactly how the zipper should be fitted. I especially want to see the stopper-box end of the zipper to see how it's attached in...

Andrew, Steve began a thread on this a few months ago now. Lots of money
for a small book, but well regarded from what I've read.
Sgt. J.H.M.Ellis is listed as missing that day Spitfire, last seen in combat with Bf109's.
I can't cross reference his name against the 29th August action though, where's Tim when you need him!!!:)
Sadly, also the same day as F/O P.P.Woods-Scawen was killed, he was also from 85 sq.
