    Toppers Unite

Got fed up with trying to find a silk topper that would fit me, so I decided to get a Christys' Taller Melusine hat as they offer the highest quality with the lowest price relative to Lock and Patey (Olney melusine toppers are short, badly blocked, and look to be made of inferior felt. Also the...

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Ah yes, I was very tempted to bid on that one too, but I decided to focus down on the Dunn. Hope it fits! If not I might be interested in purchasing.

Hoping it's actually a 7 1/2, but even if it's not, feels good to help...

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

The original lining of the top hat I restored has this exact logo, which I reproduced on silk when I made another lining for it (the original is somewhat damaged, but I kept it for historical authenticity). Do you know much about Borchert?

    acrylic artwork on hats

I'm new here, but from what I've gathered this forum encompasses a wide variety of hats both modern and classic, but which all fit within one or more of the categories of: - vintage (pre 1970s-80s), - high-quality (great craftsmanship/better materials), - very rare or unique (limited to...

    Wanted: Christys Top Hat Box

Looking to buy a Christys taller Top Hat box without paying ridiculous shipping to get it delivered from England. Anybody have one they'd sell me or know where I can buy one in North America?

This is definitely a hat I'll wear on the street in winter. The Kitten finish is very soft, and the edge is quite impressive. Looks a lot better than the stitched modern brims.

    Post New Hats Here!

Thanks Brad, I suspected as much but I didn't know whether those were only found on Cavanagh hats or if other brands sported them too. The finish is extremely soft, much softer than any of the hats I recently tried on at a local hat shop. Plus the original box is in good shape, and it still has...

    Post New Hats Here!

re: bowlerman, what are the distinguishing features of each? It doesn't have any stitching, just a raised felt edge.

    Post New Hats Here!

Posted this on the ebay thread as well. Came today, was mislabeled on ebay as "Bristol Hat" so there was only one other bidder. Written on the hatband: XXX beaver with a Kitten finish (what does that mean?)

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Here's a Resistol hat I picked up, wanted the standard grey 60s stingy fedora, 7 3/8 or so. Fits very well. XXX beaver with a label that says "kitten finish." Anyone know what that means? http://www.ebay.com/itm/250932889387?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_500wt_971

I'm fairly sure that was the fashion at the time, at least that's what I've seen on a number of photos of hats from the 1870s. It's all original. I'm curious if anyone on here (especially topper specialists) have seen any hats with a similarly coloured tip.

Just got this awesome top hat in the mail. Crown is almost 7 inches tall. The tip is brown silk, while the rest is black silk. I've never seen a top hat with multicoloured silk plush used, might be quite rare. At first I thought it was sun-damage that lightened it, but on close inspection it...

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

This phenomenal stovepipe arrived today. Looks to be 19th century, probably 1860-1870s. Crown is 6 7/8" tall, and it has brown silk plush on the tip, with black around the pipe and the brim, all of it perfect with no rubbing. A few dents here and there, but totally repairable. Size 7 1/4. See...
