Leaving the planet for good this time; that's why the sale
The pilling is the worst and it's been going on for 20 years now. My 1980 was embarrassing. I cleaned it up and gave to my foreman's wife. She fills it out better than me. I shrivelled from size 40 to 38 since the Navy. - Hey, maybe we could check our stuff out together when it gets a little...
My WW2 is similar to the 1966 coat but slightly thinner and less rigid. In the '66 my arms feel like they're in a stove pipe. The kersy has a harsher Scotchbrite feel-definitely needs breaking in. The 1968 coat I was issued was very good too but had the flannel pockets which to me was the...
Aren't we fortunate to have these though? Recently got a mint item which I dated to June 1944 from the Naval Clothing Factory in Brooklyn. The materials, workmanship and fit is clearly superior to the Buzz Rickson pea coats I tried down on Orchard Street. They want $750 but mine was slightly...
ditto timing
Don't give up checking. I just picked up virgin WW2 10 button on ebay as well as the deadstock 1966 I posted some days ago during the "off" season.
I admit to being one of those puny size 38-40 guys but a miracle opportunity will just pop up anytime. (BTW, Mr. Peacoat, the WW2...
collar
I thought the old coats had collar stitching like I've seen on some of the flight jackets in the forum.
Frankly, I have never examined an 8 button coat.
Thank you for looking at your inventory though.

pea coat eras
Anybody know when they gave up on the decorative stitching on the back of the turned up collar? Is it just on the 8 button models or did it make it to some of the 6 buttons too? Vietnam on have collars that are just a sewn-on flap.
It looks excellent and professional! The pattern is very interesting- not gaudy or corny like some Rickies. No apologies... you look really good in it. Congrats.
And thank you for taking care of me- obviously I'm new here but more than that, this is my first experience with any forum of any kind. I hardly know what I'm doing let alone what I should be doing.
Don't worry. Your problem is one of timing. I have been watching ebay too and noticed a sudden drop off of listings- all sizes. It's spring and people are not thinking about coats. Those listing know they won't get a good price.
Nobody is digging around their closets for winter wear. Check...
Beside its brand and vintage cachet, it just looks so much better than the junk you would buy today. Price an Aquascutum or Burberry and the Mac is reasonable, better looking and a "real" thing. Hopethat Aquascutum can get back to some roots having ditched their two "nouveau elite" designers...
I had a thought while adopting Peacoat's position on imponderables last night.
A peacoat is synonymous with "reefer." What if the double breasted thing is all about access. Sailors up on the yards of old sailing ships, reefing sails in the weather, would need something inside their jacket...
Considering peacoats (pre-1966), what on earth was the purpose of fully functional double rows of buttons and holes? Faux double breasted front makes sense for extra protection. But the only reason I can think for two sets is to cover the egg you dropped on your coat at breakfast. (P.S. no women...
