I got a tip from someone long ago in refrence to getting smell out of an old suitcase, she said to put charcoal inside for a few days, and it helped. Don't know if it works with paper but you may try putting them into a trash bag with some charcoal.

I agree with Lizzie on these, 60's. The heel is too thick to be 50's or 40's. They would be great for dancing though with that thicker heel

once leather is that dry and cracked there's nothing you can do to bring it back. restoring it would be very expensive
you could wear it still, ( I would ) but I'm sure the deconstructed look isn't what you're wanting.
