    Lifetime Shoes

Thanks for the replies. I think the English shoes will be out of my price range, but I will keep a wary eye for some. But it's hard to know without being able to try some on. I do rather like these http://www.leathersoulhawaii.com/2009/10/12/edward-green-beaulieu-in-black/ What do you...

    Lifetime Shoes

What makes would you recommend over Allen Edmonds? I always worry about internet sales simply due to fit. I have a short-fat foot, but my sizing is all over the place. For instance, I have a pair of Florsheim cap toe black shoes in 9.5D that "fit" but are uncomfortable for anything more...

    Lifetime Shoes

Thanks for the response. I'm looking toward Cap-Toe, as I think that's a bit more flexible than plain toe. My thought as well that the wing-tip would not be appropriate with formal dress. Rebuilding is interesting. I'll look into that more.

    Lifetime Shoes

All, I'm getting married in a bit over a year, and thought this would be a good "excuse" to get a high quality pair of dress shoes, since i'll need something comfy to stand through the ceremony. I'm going with formal wear so I'd like something that looks good there, but also something I can...

Hats In The Car/A Newbie Question

    Thanks! Did not know that.

Hats In The Car/A Newbie Question

No problem on either count in my 2005 Cadillac STS. But then I'm 5'6". Oddly, I DO have problems in my 1996 Jeep Cherokee. on both items! But in the Cadillac I usually take it off and put it on the dash anyway... in the Jeep the dash isn't big enough to put anything on, go figure! I...

Where do you wear morning wear?

Thanks for the suggestions. In all honesty I may claim host's privilege and just do what I like better at the time. However, thanks to this thread I think we're going to put somewhere in the invitation to encourage formal attire. I figure most people my age will probably not go beyond a...

Where do you wear morning wear?

Here's a semi-related question. I'm getting married next year, and it's a 2pm wedding, with a reception from 5-10pm. Since 6pm is supposed to be the cutoff from day to evening wear, how does that work? Would you dress according to when the event starts, or when it ends?

    High Style Brands Absent Here

"Lids" brand fedoras are CHEAP. I have 2, and bought them for the purpose of being cheap. Haven't tried more name-brand types.

    Praising business casual?

Only once, I was getting breakfast in the work cafeteria, and there were some visiting folks from a relocation agency mostly wearing sport-coats. One of the cooks said to another "get ready, there's a bunch of suits outside" Keep in mind, no-one in my building wears a coat or tie on a...

    Allen Edmonds "Empire"

give em the leatherique treatment http://www.leatherique.com/ Do it right and you'll be amazed how soft the leather becomes. Should come back like new. Obviously though you'll need to get any tears repaired. Exactly the shoes I want, except I want oxblood/burgundy instead of the...

HAT ADORNMENTS: ribbons, bows, pins, pugs, leather, etc.

I work for Mack Trucks, so when I came across this old bulldog pin I had to have a go with it!

Fountain Pens: Who uses them, and why?

I carry a Lamy Logo in brushed SS and F point almost every day to work. Since I work in an engineering and test facility, the utilitarian look fits right in, but still gives me the flair of a fountain pen. Plus to my mind the steel nib should hold up well to whatever paper I come accross. I...

    Oviatt's Trenchcoat

Superb! I'll bet you can find a buckle that will fit, but will have to have it resewn. My suggestion would be to tie it off as suggested, or, as I don't really like belts on jackets, just remove it.

    Homburg Nation

I'm looking for a grey homburg with a black ribbon, to go with my grey suit. Not really looking for a colour match, just something like a moonstone would probably work nicely. Homburgs seem to be hard to come by, and Stetson only appears to offer a black one from their website. Are there...

    Manny

I came to know of Jerry Jeff through a friend of mine from West Texas. Along with other lesser known Texas Greats like Pat Green, Gary P Nunn, Aaron Watson, Ray Wylie Hubbard, etc. Intersting thing is, we went to college in Flint Michigan, and could easily find cd's from all of the above at...

Matching a hat shade to a suit

Not to contradict my earlier post, but I think you've hit on my main fashion sense... try to 'not clash'. If I had an unlimited budget to get every possible combination of hat and suit then sure, match everything. But for those of us who can only afford a couple of hats, we've got to make do!

I was reading this thread and it got me thinking of a relatively obscure song by Jerry Jeff Walker... Thought folks around here would appreciate it. Sorry if this is the wrong forum to put it in, but since it's about hats I thought it would be the place to start. I never noticed the John B...

Matching a hat shade to a suit

You're not that far off of me. Except that I don't have enough hats to have much "resolution" to this. I have an olive colored hat with a black ribbon, and a brown hat with a brown ribbon. I usually break this out as matching the ribbon OR the hat to something I'm wearing. If I wear a...

CNN Living in a time warp

Ding Ding Ding! Yep, I often say I would like to go back to a former time, say medieval times.... IF and ONLY IF... I were a King/Lord. Same thing goes for almost any era. I think the current time we live in is by far the best time to be an "average joe" of any. Most of us have homes with...
