Thanks for the note, I will try to watch that. I can try to avoid getting the solution at the top there. But my crest is washed out a lot anyway so it wouldn't be that huge of a loss.
Thanks, the masking tape thing sounds promising.. just a bit of stick, but not too much.
Another question, on the sweatband though... as you can see in the picture it's a little "sloppy" looking. Is there a way to "shrink" it back to the way it should be? or will it just iron out over time...
Thanks for the comments!
I'll have to see what I do with the "bash" I kind of like it, but I'm also kind of a perfectionist, so I'm fighting myself on that one. I think for the time being it will stay as it is, but who knows. I do like the diamond, but wish it was a little more even side to side.
Got this Royal Stetson from RoninJedi in the classifieds.
In good shape, though the liner needs some cleaning. Does this look like a "diamond" crease? lopsided though it may be. I think it's the crease I want, though the hat doesn't give me much option, I can open it up to be open crown...
Thanks, it had been stitched in, but was down to one strand holding it at the very back so I got it out without too much difficulty. Just wearing the hat unlined now until I get that cleaned up.
Woolite, like the laundry detergent?
This liner has the clear plastic cover, does that affect...
Right on what?
Thanks for the description on cleaning... How do I remove the liner form the hat? Would it just be stiched on? How are they usually sewn on?
Sorry I'm very new to hats!
I just received this in the mail from Roninjedi, and as he mentions in the ad the liner is a little discoloured, and also coming loose. As you can see in the picture the crest is also blurred a little I assume from sweat or rain soaking.
Anyone have tips on how I can straighten this out...
Kind of surprising goo-gone didn't get it! must be some pretty impressive stuff whatever it is!
If it's leather the best stuff for cleaning and conditioning is Leatherique.

But it's kind of expensive, and not sure that it will help since the other measures you've...
Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good pair of wingtip dress shoes that would come in under $100?
I do watch Ebay, but so many brand names I've not heard of, plus I'd prefer trying them on as for no apparent reason in some shoes a 9 fits perfect, while in others a 9.5 is tight.
I've...
Just thinking for us newbies it would be nice to have a sticky with a glossary of hat terms. For instance
Blocking
Bashing
Crease
etc. I imagine most people know a brim, crown etc, but it would still be nice to have an idea of what all the technical terms mean..
Question:
I hear lots about cedar shoe trees. I've never used these, but have now ordered some since people talk about them so much. If nothing else it should make a shoe easier to polish with something holding form in it.
But my question is for those of us who can't justify to spend...
I believe this is true as well.. I contacted Leatherique a while back on this same subject, as anything petroleum based will eventually hurt leather. I was concerned that the polish would eventually break down the leather. Here was their reply.
"You are doing 100% perfect with your leather...
I was just watching "A river Runs Through It" the other night and it occurred to me... I love the father's glasses. Anyone know where I can get those, or some like it?
For maintenance of the leather itself my preference is

Recommended by the Rolls Royce owners club, I've been using this in cars, and on shoes, and other leather items (hat sweatband) for years, and love it. Friendly family business too.
As for acheiving the...
Thanks for the suggestion, oddly enough I'd never thought of that.
I have what I think is a 7-1/4 "Long Oval" (I seem to have removed every size indication from it! Even under the sweatband) Resistol straw hat that fits just a tad big that I might try this with.
I'm with you. To me $100 is the limit on anything not made especially for me. I usually watch for stuff on sale. ctshirts.com often has really good sales which brings otherwise $200+ shirts down under $100.
I was reading about a Jermyn street shirt tailor that makes custom shirts based...
