I just bought an old Borsalino Colombo, and the sweat is very hard. The leather feels very thin, and very hard and brittle; almost like plastic. I used one layer of Lexol, and it softened up just slightly, barely noticeable at all. Should I keep going?

Aureliano and Steve, I had an old G.B. Borsalino fu Lazzaro with that extra thread. I always thought it was an odd (and sloppy) way of attaching the ribbon. Thanks for the info.
I saw some at Brooks Brothers... Wool gab, but nothing special in terms of styling. And their regular price of $150.
I'm thinking that I'll just get them through Indy, or buy a pattern from Eva Dress and take it to my tailor.

After much searching, and deliberation as to whether I really should be spending this money; I have decided to post an ad for a pair of cream/ivory gabardine trousers. Wool, or a heavy linen. I wear about a 33 waist, and a 33 inseam (with room for cuffs). I'd like them to be 50's or earlier...

What's the difference between the '34 trouser pattern, and the 40's trouser pattern?
I'd be giving the pattern and the fabric to my tailor as I have no experience in sewing. Would the patterns work with striped fabric, and could the tailor potentially alter the trouser...
