I have an nice English made deerstalker that I've had for many years...you know, the "Sherlock Holmes" hat.
I got it when I was a kid for a song back when I collected "interesting" hats.
I don't wear it much ;)
Glad it's being re-released. It's one of my favorite golden era "mood" movies. The dialogue is great and really sparkles, and the film is just one of those I could watch anytime. I DVR'd it a while back, but I'll be pre-ordering the DVD as well :)
To echo everyone else, welcome aboard!
I'm a military brat; My father was a US Marine officer and I grew up around military men. I have a deep and abiding respect and affection for them. My heroes and role models have largely been men like John Basilone and John Howard. I'm honored to have...
I'll put in a vote for John Basilone. Marine winner of the Medal of Honor at Guadalcanal in 1942, Basilone was sent home a hero to sell war bonds and train troops. He requested to return to combat duty, to be with his Marines. He was killed on Iwo Jima on February 19, 1945.
They called him...
Dr G,
That's a nice G.P.
Paddy,
I really like that Speedmaster with the Luftwaffe strap. Very cool !!
I'm an Omega fan(I'd love to have a WWII broad arrow Brit issue Omega) and the speedy pro is just an absolute classic.
The Panerai is a very neat watch. I love their history-...
Tony, your're right about the Kona. It's really good. We used a stash we brought back from the Big Island for awhile until that ran out, then tried some of the expensive imported Kona. It IS expensive over here.
I have family in the Newport News/ Hampton Roads area of Virginia. My sister and brother in law are fairly cosmopolitan people who have lived in places as diverse as California, Texas, NC, and Germany before moving to Virginia. They really like it and have been there about nine years. The...
Yes, he was one of the greats. I've always found him particularly interesting to WATCH. He did have a naturalistic acting style that made it seem almost as if he weren't acting. It's fascinating just watching him in a scene, and trying to catch him "acting."
I particularly liked him in The...
Yeah, I'm one of those watch guys.
I've been interested in them since I was a kid. My parents actually gave me a Timex pocket watch when I was about eight years old because I was hooked on pocket watches:) I still have it and it still runs great.
I have a couple of 1940s-early 50s...
I LOVE coffee!
I've tried all different kinds, and currently at home we usually use an assortment of either eight o'clock or dunkin donuts or another store brand we like. We splurge every now and then for some Hawaiian Kona and it's good- although many different Konas are out there...
Mike,
There are several that come to mind. Try Richard Gilbert of Asland Investments first. He's a reputable dealer who co-authors "The Complete Price Guide To Watches" every year along with Cooksey Shugart. I know Gilbert could probably help out. Here's a link to his ebay store...
Well, I suppose the partisan Carolinian in me should recommend the central "Triangle" area of NC, Raleigh, Durham area. It is really growing and has great outdoor activities all around and a growing- QUICKLY- Raleigh urban area. You have the beach close by and the mountains...and some of the...
I've turned into a real slave to the internet revolution.
It's ironic because I was one of those who said ten years ago, "Internet- huh, I don't need no stinking internet!"
Now, I'm always surfing here and there like a virtual junkie. A laptop with wireless is the BEST. My wife gave me...
Beautiful score, Fedora Lover.
I haven't checked the goodwills lately, hmmm. Worth a try.
I also like the prospecting for gold analogy. The luckiest I ever got was about fifteen years ago in an antique store. I used to go antiquing quite often, especially looking for watches. One day...
