Very true! But with this hat I've never gotten a reference to another hat wearer before. Though once, when I was about to enter the cathedral in Milan, a guy at the door called me "Mr. Cowboy." And here was in Milan, the home of Borsalino. Go figure.
New one today. I was wearing the VS custom which is a midnight blue version of the one in my avatar. We went to the theater, and an usher complemented me on my hat. And then added "Blacklist." I know he meant well but this is a wide brimmed 20s style crease. Oh well. At least he liked it.
Art made me a great traveling hat out of that 1952 felt in something close to his moss green. I promise to post pics sometime soon.

Maybe your hat doesn't fit right? I have a round oval. My custom VS hats don't mess up my hair unless I wear them a long time, but the regular oval hats I have would so I have to get them a little larger. Maybe your hat is too tight, or the wrong oval?
I am awaiting arrival today of a hat made by Art using those vintage Mallory bodies made specifically for travel. They're a little pricey. But I'm sure that Art Fawcett could easily make you a travel hat out of his regular lightweight felt. It's really a matter of having the sweatband made...
I think you should re-think this "too warm for California" stuff. I moved to SoCal 6 years ago from Massachusetts and I've had plenty of opportunities to wear my dress felts. The lack of humidity makes up for the higher temps so the shade helps.
I can't stand it anymore. These Mallory felt hats look great. I've asked Art to make me a travel hat out of this Mallory felt. If it's as thin as we hear it is, it should make a great travel hat. And I travel a lot.
I don't know if on this video but I remember him asking, "How come when I'm wearing my hat I don't notice it, but when I take it off it feels like it's still there?" Or something like that.
I believe that in days gone by men pretty much wore their hats until they wore out as they were a expensive item. Since children outgrow their clothes rapidly, buying an expensive hat would be an inefficient idea. It has been speculated on this forum that the reason so many surviving vintage...
