The "Stendahl"
Introducing the "Stendhal." I asked Art to replicate the hat in this picture of Earl Stendahl, a famous art dealer in the 20s:
He did a great job. The hat is in black cherry with a 2 5/8" brim and a 5 5/8" crown. The crease is kind of a cattleman's crease but the brim...
I've decided to cull the herd and am putting up one of my best, little worn hats. I'm selling it because it is too big for me and no matter how I stuff the sweat a slight breeze will blow it off my head and tilting my head makes it slide over. I am a 7 5/16 so 7 1/2 is just too big so I've...
We'll have a little wait I'm afraid. I'm in Art's que, but I'm not in a hurry. This is really a winter hat and the winter's kind of over here in SoCal (such as it is).
Thanks guys. The shape of my face is round like Stendahl's and I thought this looked good on him. So I thought this would be a good overcoat hat and different than my other fedoras.
Looking good Hatophile!
Anyone have an idea on this style? Like when it's from? I'm having Art Fawcett make up a replica, but I thought some of the scholars here might know something about it:
Art Fawcett can replicate just about any hat you'd want. Optimo, in Chicago, made the original hats for Public Enemies and sell a hat that's similar but not exactly like the original.
My VS blue smoke Jazzman is a favorite, and also a VS silverbelly (the one with 2 buttons on the hatband). Both are in Artlite felt, which is hard to come by now.
