Just took delivery of a pair of Lofgren M43 Service Shoes 10th Anniversary in Italian veg-tan horsehide. Bought through an authorized dealer, per the Lofgren website.
The boots are beautiful, but there is a section of leather on the left boot’s inner heel area that looks a little weird to me...
Gents,
Anyone have any pics of jackets in this leather? Closeups of the grain, finish, etc? Ideally black, bOr just some words on various qualities/drawbacks of the leather?
Would also love to know who produces it, and the tanning process.
I haven’t seen a horsehide called this from anyone...
I posted this a year ago, and I have learned a LOT in that time… I have three pairs of Whites, three pairs of Wesco, a Lofgren, a pair of Mr. Freedom Road Champs, and some vintage 1950’s horsehide Santa Rosa engineers.
So… Quality of construction I think is a toss-up between Wesco and White’s...
Not talking scratches, I’m talking cuts... the Lofgrens have been spared because I’m mindful of them, but I have a pair of White’s in CXL that I have abused, and they definitely have deep cuts in them... again, the saving grace of the leather is it’s thickness, bc a few of these would probably...
It’s not, particularly. At least if my Donkey Punchers are any indication.
I know CXL has a lot of fans, but it’s a softer leather, and it’s not too difficult to put a nice cut or gash in it- on the bike, in the woods, or whatever... especially when it’s new. I find it to be about as...
Thanks for the heads up re. Moto!
Yeah, I was surprised at the Lofgren HH offering... it’s just one color, “Havana”. A website exclusive offer... Personally, I’d probably take them to my guy and turn those edges brown. Not sure the natural is a great look with that hide...
Thanks for the suggestions so far!
-Clinch look good, but pricy. Might bite the bullet if I can find the right deal.
-Attractions seem cool. Anybody know where in Japan they are made?
-Flame Panda sounds interesting, but I have no idea how to actually get a pair... I haven’t been able to...
Yeah, a lovely slim fit. One thing I like is that the armholes seem to located a bit higher than on a classic Type III... roughly identical to the placement on my Corsair or Universal Mk 2. This alleviates the boxiness typical of most Type III patterns; the jacket drapes more like a slim-cut...
I actually don’t mind the patch. It’s an eccentricity of the brand. Those who know, know. And those who don’t... Well, that’s the thing about a Lewis. Your jacket is so damn good-looking, nobody will even notice the patch.
60’s vibe... My thoughts exactly when I first saw the Western. Always wanted one, but no hand warmer pockets was a deal-breaker, and I was hesitant to order one custom, as I’d never seen one with the modification.
Then I saw this one, and it was pretty much exactly as I would order it, if I...
Just picked this up. Very happy with it.
For anyone wondering about the material (as this is not disclosed in any of the descriptions online), it is a steer hide, not the standard sheepskin LL usually uses for their suede/roughout.
One could call it either a heavy midweight or a lighter...
Yeah, I love the whole uber-high-end bespoke leather jacket company thing, but I wouldn’t ride any of mine. Vanson for me, all the way. They are actually built for being on the bike, not merely looking like you might be on a bike... In 1963... while looking intensely into the distance.
Speaking...
Dunno if you’ve studied them side by side, but I was wearing my LL Universal Racer Mark II, and had the opportunity... the FCL stuff simply wasn’t any better constructed, imo. Stitching, seams, panels, matching... all very comparable. And I’ve compared my Mark II to my Vicenza Board Racer, and...
Checked out some Fine Creek stuff today. Very, very nice jackets, sure... but I don’t know that they are priced in line with what they are. The fit/finish and build quality seemed right in line with Aero/Lewis/SB et al. That is to say, certainly a top-tierish jacket, but imo, it’s tough to...
