Those shows are difficult to watch. Thankfully, whenever my wife and I do watch one, we take the opportunity to laugh, guffaw, point fingers, and complain about the performances and the mostly terrible articles of clothing.
Incidentally, we do the same with football on the weekends.
As Jimmy The Lids link shows, they are very frequently said to have subtle differences, while the terms are basically used interchangeably.
While my ear is good for music, my eyes very frequently see no difference, even when people claim there is. Especially with the whole "fluid" argument...
This should be kept in the front of our minds.
AmateisGal, speaking of the Ladies Home Journal. I just read Roald Dahl's short story Only This from the September 1944 issue of the LHJ. Only a year removed.
At this point in time, I certainly do not. I don't know what others think, but the folks of 1943 probably do not have that mythological sheen that the folks of 1776 seem to possess (whether deserved or not). As pointed out by others, we probably do not have enough space within time from them...
Brand new quality leather bound hardcover book with gold or sliver cover stamping, raised bands on the spine, decorated endpapers, smythe sewn signatures, cream colored quality milled paper, with page gilding, and a quality satin or silk ribbon marker (sewn in) smell would be my preference...
I'm a long time fan of many Japanese jackets. There are models from the 80's right up through current catalogs of jackets only available in Japan that I would almost (so very almost) kill for.
Sigh.
Unless we begin having our hats sized for our noggin' on a per purchase basis (ala custom), it is the fate to which we are genetically predestined.
We may never extricate ourselves. We must learn to be happy.
The place of purchase does not dictate, ex nihilo, the style, genre, or form of any given piece of headwear by necessity. You can get all kinds of hats in all kinds of places.
A hat may be whatever it will be irrespective of the store it is purchased in.
Getting a machine creased hat to accept a new crease can be extremely difficult. I have accomplished it on a single hat whose crease I did not like, but it took monumental amounts of work and certain attributes of the original crease could never be removed.
However, this was with the tools...
The Akubra I owned was tagged as a 7 3/8 (59cm) and if it was not exactly that size than it was darned close. Comparison with a Scala, Stefano, and Dobbs 7 3/8's showed them to all be approximate to one another.
As the sufferer of a similar condition, I can sympathize. My measurement is EXACTLY 7 1/4. Precisely and pointedly. This creates a serious dilemma: if the hat draws in or shrinks even sort of, the hat becomes too small and rides up.
Unfortunately, a 7 3/8 is an entire size too big.
So I...
Ouch.
I don't see why longer brims should naturally follow from shorter brims. If someone starts on longer brims, would that naturally lead to shorter brims? Or even longer brims? Or have they already reached a spiritual zenith by virtue of having landed in the middle?
